A Starless Night In Paris
The moon hung in the starless sky and the wind chilled the earth as it blew soundlessly against the surroundings of Paris. Sitting up in bed my whole body felt exhausted and weighed down.My head was pounding and my body screamed with an uncalming ache. Involuntarily I let out a small groan as I shifted my weight in the bed that Lestat had provided to look out the window. My thoughts then roamed to him, where had he gone? the house was so quiet and as it settled every hair stood on end. It was the kind of eerie creaks one would encounter inside an abandon worn down shack. Stretching a little I pushed my hair out of my face and searched the darkness before finding the door way. Slipping my worn body out of bed I made my way into the main area of the house. My clothes were now damp from sweat that I must had acquired during my restless sleep.
As I walked through the rooms I came across a mirror and peered at the girl looking back at me. She was a small built girl standing only at five-feet and three inches tall. The smooth olive colored skin of her Italian heritage glowed almost instantly. Raking my fingers through the long chest-nut brown curls that enveloped my thin, oval face. The intense green and gold mixed eyes stared back at me in a feline like manner. This I had acquired from my grandmother. She always said my eyes were my best feature since my figure was always that of a stick and my body had little to no shape what so ever. My mother blamed it on all my tom-boy years and rough- housing with Michael and Satanos. As I looked myself over I was rather pale looking and my face was more sunken in from exhaustion giving my high cheek bones more of a distinct profile and making my nose look so small and narrow against my oval face. Dark ugly circles lay around my eyes causing me to snarl at myself. I thought I looked quite hideous and Lestat had seen me this way. My handsome savior, my Lelio.
“Lestat..Nicki?” I called out but there was nothing but a dead silence that greeted my voice as it seemed to echo back. The moonlight shown through the window gently landing on a pile of clothes in the corner covered in dust. Picking out a long dress jacket I dusted it off, best I could anyway. “Nice little night for a walk eh?” I told myself making my way out the door into the cold night. Despite the fact I didn’t have any shoes was the least of my problems. I felt faint at that point and I wanted to find Lestat and ask exactly what happened to me. All I remembered was him leaning over me and carrying me back to the place where he slept. “What are you doing out here little one?” came a voice several feet from behind me. Whirling around I met Lestat’s face and his eyes gave an eerie glow in the moonlight as I gazed up at him a soft smile played across the pale pink of his lips. “I woke up and was startled,I came to find you.” I said looking up into his blue eyes as he moved forward.
“Paris at night is no place for such fragile girls like yourself.” He smirked flashing a hint of white teeth as he slowly walked around me now. “For your information Mr.Valios I am quite capable of taking care of myself.” With a soft mock of laughter he stopped several inches in front of me and a sly smile danced across his face, the type of thing you would see from the Prince of Thieves. “On the contrary miss, I believe from recent events you need help indeed.”
“How very profound of you to think so.” I said looking to him
“Oh but yes my dear so canny of you to think it that way.” He retorted.
“And you will do what for me?” I asked
“I will save you from me.” His remark was slow and serious as he watched me now.
“With all do respect Lestat, I do not fear you.” The words slipped off my tongue. It was then his cold hand touched my cheek and our eyes met. I knew then he was not of any human I had ever seen. “But my darling you should..” His words were soft and cold as his hand lay against the warmth of my cheek and I breathed in his scent. At that point I was swimming, disoriented to my surroundings as I then felt his breath close to my neck then his lips. Soon after everything went dark and my body felt limp even in my heavy sleep. What had seem like hours I awoke to the warmth of candle light around me. Opening my eyes, blurry vision was a result of my being out cold. Allowing my eyes to focus I now saw the figure of Lestat moving toward me from Nicki’s side.
“No Lestat..Don’t..you don’t..” Nicki started as Lestat settled beside me and I glanced to Nicki’s direction. “Be quiet now Nicholas..and yes I do..” Lestat glared at Nicki now and I could feel the tension rise up in the room. “Do what?” I asked Lestat looking from him to Nicki who was sulking in the corner of the room. “Ah, well Nicki doesn’t want me to help you..you see my dear you were light headed and fainted..I couldn’t grab you in time to stop your fall and you hit your head.” His voice was like a purr as he traded glances with Nicki warningly and I rubbed my neck, it was sore. “I don’t remember..” I told him and he nodded slightly “That is why I wanted to help you remember..but Nicki doesn’t want it.” Lestat said now eyeing Nicki.
“Help me remember..” I said to Lestat as Nicki dropped his arms at the sentence and moved from the room. “Alright my dear, lie back down and relax..you’re weak and you need your rest.” He smiled and I felt the warmth envelope me as I watched in a daze now as he bit into his wrist. Part of me knew I should be frightened but I knew he wouldn’t harm me and it all seemed so natural. The warm droplets of crimson touched my lips as he held his bleeding wrist out to me. My body felt like lead as he lowered it to my lips. Instantly I clasped my mouth around the wound and I could hear Lestat inside my head urging me to drink. My eyes went wide as the hot, salty liquid poured over my tongue and settled into my mouth. Everything was but a blur then as a soft groan escaped Lestat lips as I took the blood from him and he smiled then gently pulling back.
Gasping for air my whole body felt on fire and sharp pain moved through me. It was like nothing I had ever felt before. As if thousands of daggers were being thrust into by body over and over as a withered in agony. I felt the tears welling up in my eyes as I quietly began to weep from the pain. I wanted to scream and cry out for Lestat to make it stop but nothing came out of my mouth when I opened it. Calmly he caressed my hair and whispered “It will all be over soon and you will be well again.” Through the pain I smiled and as he said it and I lay there with my body dying, it was the last of me that was human but the pain did ease. I felt reborn, sitting up now I could see so much more than I could ever. “Go relieve yourself love..You don’t want to soil yourself.” Lestat purred helping me up and I nodded stumbling toward the outside area where the outhouse was.
I was eternally his from that night forward..I was as I am now. A vampire.
