If you haven’t read them, go back to the entries of 10/1/10, 10/2/10, 10/3/10, and 10/4/10, Montana Re-visited – 1 – 2. 3.&4.

So we stopped at one of the thermal fields.

In the thermally active areas you are restricted to walking on boardwalks for safety reasons. We came across one steam vent that was extremely close to a parking area.

How close you might ask?

THIS CLOSE

Son #3, our youngest, was really interested in seeing some buffalo. He was driving the truck as we entered a meadow area. “Buffalo,” he almost shouted. I looked off to the side and saw in the distance what he said were buffalo.

“Look more like pickup trucks to me,” I said.

We rounded a small rise alongside the rose and there was no doubt. Buffalo all over the place. Cars lining the widened shoulders of both sides of the road.

“Pickup trucks my ass”, said Son #3. You’re not going to live this one down.

I guess I wont.

This coyote was just off to the side of the herd. The herd wasn’t paying much attention to it and and the coyote got quite close to a buffalo calf that was either asleep or dead.

It apparently had second thoughts abaout investigating further. It trotted off.

A couple of photos of Yellowstone Lake.

What’s a visit to Yellowstone without Old Faithful, quiet and at full force.

The new Visitors and Information Center. Over half the cost of construction was paid by the Yellowstone Park Foundation

Even though I didn’t take any photos of the outside “The Inn”, I couldn’t resist taking one inside looking up at the roof.

P.S.

I was looking at the photos in yesterdays entry and I noticed something. I opened the photo editor program, cropped and rotated and ended up with this. Sometimes it pays to look ae things from a different angle.

The thermal fields are fascinating (and a bit scary), something I’ve never seen! Great pictures of the buffalo and the countryside, especially the lake. What fun to travel via OD.. Warm hugs

We could use some of that steam. It’s cold in Paris.
