– And Then –

I was sitting on the porch/deck outside the kitchen door this morning a little before 8:00 A.M..

We live southwest of Chicago’s Midway Airport. Aircraft are almost constantly flying directly over the house and then into a right turn to line up with runway 4R.

This morning, nothing, – as I drank my coffee and smoked a cigarette.

Not even a breeze.

Leaves in the trees, no movement what so ever.

The flag on the pole, not even a flutter.

Wind chimes absolutely still.

No sounds of a car going up or down the hill on the road in front of the house nor from a major highway slightly more than a quarter mile away.

I could hear just three things.

The low, soft hum of the fan expelling warm air from the attic.

He faint “hooting” of an owl off in the woods across the road in the woods.

And the sound of my own breathing.

AND THEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some Idiot Up The Hill To The South Of Us –

STARTED A LEAF BLOWER!

And that ended the solitude of the morning.

You haven’t lived until you live in an apartment complex. The noise is almost constant.

LOL. I never understood leaf blowers, but when you grow up in the suburbs, they’re as common as gunfire where I live now. RYN: I’m doing okay. Some ups and some downs. All to be expected. Wil

I live on a golf course, adjacent to one, I mean. It is ten acres in size and in the early morning dark we can see the light of the mowing machines and hear them as they begin to mow outside our bedroom. Good thing is that we got used to them and don’t really hear them–but our own lawn work? That is always on Friday and when my husband wants to nap or we have lunch–must be done but Ido feel your pain.

Hunt him down and eliminate him.

RYN: I am starting to believe that my lawn mower has an unadvertised feature of being a seed/fertilizer spreader too.

RYON: I’m a cut-and-mulcher. I know, that’s likely the secret of my ‘success’. 😉
