Taking the LSAT and Applying to Law School

Determined seems to fit my mood tonight.  I had talked with my dad last night about taking the LSAT in February and this morning he mentioned taking it in December with the hope of getting into law school for next fall.    So that’s what I’m going to do.  I’m officially registered to take the LSAT the first Saturday in December so I’m studying my butt off between now and then.  I’ve been praying about this decision for a little while now and while I’m going to fast and pray about it tomorrow as well, I’ve had no stupors of thought and I’m feeling good about it.  A little nervous since it’s a big undertaking and definitely life changing, but I’m feeling good.  My mom made the comment to me today that she believes that everyone has more than one right path that they can take.  So I’m going for this.  I’ve decided on one person to ask for a letter of recommendation but I think I might need at least one more and probably two more.  But I don’t have any ideas on the other two people.  I’ll give it some more thought and see what I come up with.  So November will be prepping for the LSAT and December will be filling out applications so that I can get them sent out in early – mid January.   If I get in somewhere, I’m going to then spend the spring looking for financial aid and scholarships and then filling out the FAFSA (won’t that be fun {insert sarcasm here})  I’m applying to at least four different law schools – UW-Madison, Northern Illinois University,  BYU, and Cornell (for those who haven’t been following my diary – that’s where my brothers are going to college).  BYU’s going to be the cheapest with Cornell the most expensive.  I have a little better shot at getting into Cornell than your average person as they like legacies and both of my brothers are currently attending there (one still will be next fall and the other will have done his undergrad and post-grad work there).  All else aside, it’d be nice not to be the only sibling to have not attended Cornell or another Ivy League school but who knows.

My dad and I went down to IL today to see my grandparents (I studied on the way down and then on the way back til I lost the light).  My grandparents are doing as well as can be expected at this point.  My grandfather’s memory wasn’t great, but at least he wasn’t telling stories of snow machines in his yard, etc (apparently that’s pretty usual these days). But while we were down there we got to see my cousin, her husband, and their young daughter.  It’s been awhile since we’ve seen them so it was good to get a chance to say hi.  Their daughter is getting so big – she’s 18 months old now and such a cutie.
