Star Trek & Marking Time

First – Star Trek.  I couldn’t resist – I preordered it from iTunes the other day and downloaded it this morning.  I love it.  I saw it many times when it was in theaters and couldn’t resist getting it from iTunes.  I ended up leaving work at noon with a nasty headache.  I came home and took about an hour’s nap and then did some LSAT study work.  There are a few problems/issues I want to talk out with my dad regarding some of the questions in my book.  Some of the explanations they have make me go "huh?"  I decided tonight that I need to leave the house about 7 am or just thereafter the day of the exam.  I know what building the test is in, but I’ve never been in the building and it’s about a 10 minute walk from where I can park to the building.  I have to be there before 8:30 as well. I was talking to my dad on the phone tonight – it sounds like we’re going to head out to dinner the night of the LSAT after I’m done. So anyway, I came home and took a nap and then spent some time doing logic games and now I’m watching Star Trek as I type this.  I seriously love the movie – it’s just fun 🙂

In other news, I’ve discovered over the last two days how much I dislike marking time when I’m making plans to stop simply marking time.  I realize that at work, all I’m really doing is marking time.  There aren’t many places to go, so really I’m just running in place.  I realize that eventually I’ll move into incoming calls and get a raise and then maybe do other stuff so that I’m not on the phones all day, but that’s still months and months away and there’s not really anywhere to go from there.  On some level, the phone experience is good for me, as I’ve had little of it to date.  Phone experience will serve me well later, in whatever field I end up in.  But a call center is not the end goal by any means.  So I’m wanting more and more for time to speed up, but by the same token I need that time outside work to deal with the LSAT and then to deal with law school applications.  I’m sure that if I get into a law school, I’ll be more than a little unbearable until it’s time to put in my two week notice at work.  At this point, if I get in, that will probably be sometime after mid-July.   My parents made a good point the other night – if I end up somewhere other than UW, I’ll have to take several days to go out to wherever I end up and look at housing options and all the other stuff that goes into starting college again.  I just want work to mean working towards something, not just marking time or doing the same thing all day.  As boring as Loan Ops was from time to time, at least I had different tasks through the day.  Even when I start taking incoming calls and have different types of calls all day long, I’m still taking calls all day long doing essentially the same thing.  I mean, everyone’s situation is different but we still go through the same options and request verification of the same information.  So I’m ready to stop marking time.  At least with law school, I’m working towards something, and then I know enough about some areas of law to know that every situation is different and because of that, you do different things and take different paths to solve the problems.   With taking calls, there’s a set number of options we have and while some borrowers might use this set of options and another set of borrowers might use a different set of options, they’re all still pulling from a limited number of options.

I’m watching Star Trek too right now, I couldn’t resist and ran out and got a copy at my lunch today. Enjoy!

The Star Trek movie was surprisingly good. I had my reservations about recasting such established characters, but they really pulled it off.

I have to dissent…didn’t really overly care for the Abrams version, but at the same point I can’t really decide whether I like it or hate it. So I’ll guess I’ll let it go the Middle Road vice the High or Low Road. In the end, it’s an alternate timeline…so I’ll treat it as such and leave it at that. 🙂 Good luck with that LSAT!
