Netbook

So I know I’ve not been good about writing over here at OD.  I’ve been writing more over at LDSJournal, but not much even there.  That being said, I’m done with work now.  I’m no longer on the phones (hooray for that!).  My last day was June 4th.  I spent last week doing absolutely nothing and that was wonderful.  Starting next week, I’m cleaning and starting to go through my room.  Not quite packing yet, but close.  There is some stuff I can pack away now and some stuff I’ll have to wait until it’s closer to time to pack.  In any case, one of the things that it was suggested that I get as part of my back to school necessities was a netbook.  So last night I went to BestBuy and bought the one I wanted.  I ended up with a Dell Inspiron Mini.  I’m actually typing this entry on it to get used to the slightly different position of the keys and the mouse.  I may end up getting a mouse for when I’m studying at my apartment, but we’ll see how the mouse goes over the next weeks.  For the moment I don’t have a CD-Rom on this computer.  I don’t think I will need one but if I do, I can always buy one or ask for it for Christmas. In any case, I’m using my netbook in an effort to get used to it and get my typing speed back up on it.  I want to be ready to go come orientation and that means being comfortable with my netbook.  My brother’s going to upgrade my OS from Windows 7 Starter to one of the other versions of Windows 7.  It’s not terribly different from Vista.  The other thing I need to do in the coming weeks is find the deal for students again for Microsoft Office Student Edition.  It’s like $65 for students (you have to have a .edu email address to get it).  I’ve got lots to do in just a few weeks.  Lots of calls to make this week too.  I need to put the reminders into Outlook so that I remember to make all the calls I need to make.

In other news, my birthday’s in just a few weeks and we’re headed into Chicago for a Cubs game.  Hopefully they figure out how to win between now and then, but that might be asking for too much.  We were going to ESPN Zone for dinner after the game, but Disney is closing all but two of their ESPN Zone restaurants. The only two remaining open are in California.  So it looks like we’re headed to The Cheesecake Factory for dinner after the game.

It will be interesting to see how Office 10 is. I’m not a big MS Office fan, but I admit it’s got its uses. (as a linux user, I’m a fan of plain text documents and use gnumeric for spreadsheets) congrats on the new netbook, hope you enjoy it ^_^

I love reminders on Outlook! You should see all the ones I have at work – it’s a lot. lol. But it helps sooo much because I get so busy and forget things! I don’t know where I would be without a scheduler.
