Dangerous Cold

Starting at 6:00 pm tonight and going through noon on Friday, we’re under a wind chill warning.  Essentially, it means we’ll have wind chill readings at -35º F (or colder) for three hours or more.  Our overnight low tonight is -20ºF, the high tomorrow is just -5ºF and the low tomorrow night is -22ºF.  We *finally* get above zero on Friday, with a high of  6ºF.  We then *thankfully* get into the 20’s for highs over the weekend.  But this is dangerous dangerous cold we’re dealing with.  The entire state of WI is under a wind chill warning, as is a good chunk of the Upper Midwest. And the parts of the upper midwest that aren’t under a wind chill warning are instead under a wind chill advisory (wind chills of -20ºF to -35ºF).

In this part of the country, we talk about it being too cold to snow.  I used to wish it would snow when it was really cold. But now…nope.  I no longer want snow when it’s this cold because when it’s this cold, the rock salt they use to melt the snow and ice no longer works.  Once it gets below 15ºF, the rock salt quits working.  BRRRRRR!

I don’t mind the cold weather, but the snow can really be a huge inconvenience. it’s not very navigable when it’s this cold. maybe we’ll see some improvements, but i doubt it.. stay warm 🙂
