Church today
You know, it’s strange. I’m not really sure what I want to write in here. I’m aware that so many of my entries are really short and I want to make them longer…but so often I know what I want to say when I’m nowhere near a computer, but by the time I get to my computer and to my OD, those thoughts are long gone.
Church was great today. We had our ward conference today. The Second Counselor in the Stake Presidency is from our ward and our home teacher, in addition to being our Bishop until a few months ago. It’s always great to hear him speak. Now our Stake President has the habit of calling people from the congregation to bear their testimonies. But the spirit in the meeting today was just wonderful. And then after the extended meeting, we had a potluck, and I got to sit and talk to some of the people from the ward. I seriously love my ward. For quite awhile I sat (or stood, as the case may be) talking to the Bishop’s wife. They have three small kids and I’ve gotten to know her over the last few years, first when she was in the Primary presidency and I was the primary chorister and then when I was a Primary teacher, and then also as she’s the one who usually plays the piano for me when I sing in Sacrament meeting. She just had a baby…well not just – I think he’s…close to two months old now. Anyway, he’s just a cutie. And then I stopped to talk to my old Seminary teacher. She’s getting married next weekend and she’s so excited 🙂 I also realized I’d hadn’t told her about the guy I’ve been talking to on facebook. You see, he and his sister (who I also talk to) lived in the ward while we were all in Seminary 🙂 I’d realized I hadn’t told her that I’d found them (or that they’d found me) 🙂 And then I was talking to our old Bishop’s wife. She’s terrific. More often than not, when her husband comes to home teach us, she comes with, as opposed to him having a companion from the ward. It’s a little sticky because my dad’s not a member and so he responds better to his wife because he knows her. She’s a friend of my mom’s and the four of them bowled together several years back. We’ve also had them over to dinner before so my dad’s more comfortable with that. Anyway, church was great.
On another note, most of last week, including today and tomorrow, has been a last gasp of summer. It was (and is) likely our "Indian Summer." We got up to 83 today (tied a record too!) and our high tomorrow is 79. However, I was reading a thing online that said our projected high of 55 for Friday was VERY generous. Oh well, it’s that time of year. I’m actually almost ready for winter, though I must say I don’t want another one like the last one. Except….some of the weather guys appear to be predicting a VERY snowy and cold winter….essentially a repeat of the last one. *Shrugs* Oh well – not much I can do to stop it.
We got rid of the pay movie channels from our DirecTv and instead have gone with NetFlix. Our first batch will go into the mail tomorrow, so we’ll see how we like it.
sometimes I go through the same. I have so many things I would like to type during the course of the day, and when I log on OD at night, i have nothing interesting to type about. the potluck sounded like such a nice event. i hope everything goes well with the guy you’ve been corresponding with on facebook. maybe when things get serious, and if you want to bring it up, then why not? 🙂
