I just want to wish everyone in the US (and those in the Armed Forces serving abroad) a Happy Thanksgiving. This morning was pretty good – spent it at home with my parents. I was up about 6 – had a coughing fit and couldn’t go back to sleep. I played on my computer in my room for an hour before I went downstairs. Sat downstairs with my parents having waffles and bacon for breakfast. All in all, a pretty good morning…except for the fact that I still have a cold. I decided about….90 minutes ago (it’s 11:30am at the moment) that I was going to stay home today. My parents are headed down to my aunt’s house for Thanksgiving, in addition to some of my aunts/uncles/cousins and my grandparents. I’m feeling like junk and really don’t want to get everyone sick (especially my grandmother), nor do I want to risk really feeling like crap mid-afternoon, but being stuck there. If mid-afternoon I felt like crap, I wouldn’t be able to go home – wouldn’t want to drive home myself if I were feeling crappy, but wouldn’t want to make my parents leave either. So really, I’m better off staying at home, even if it does drive me crazy. I’m honestly hoping that this is as bad as my cold gets. I’ve yet to have one or two days of almost non-stop sneezing/runny nose/stuffy nose (I seem to get one or two days of that with each cold I get). Instead, I’ve mostly just been coughing, along with a sore throat, sore ear, sinus headache, and general fatigue (in addition to the occasional sneeze). Of course, it’s just enough to make me miserable…
So this afternoon, I’m doing the stuff for my tithing lesson on Sunday. I have several things that I’m doing for the lesson, including a few that are more creative (at least on my end). I also have some homework to do this weekend. The original version of Miracle on 34th Street is on NBC at 2pm so I’ll probably watch that too.
We have a white Thanksgiving. We got about 2 inches of snow last evening. It snowed from about 6pm through midnight or so. It was the first snowfall of the year. It was a little strange though. Usually, we’ll see our first flakes in October, followed by a dusting of snow, and then finally the first measurable snowfall (usually, but not always by Thanksgiving). This year, we skipped the dusting. Prior to last night’s snowfall, we’d had two occasions of frozen precipitation. Right now I’m watching Eight Below while I type this…
I’m listening to my parents try and maneuver and figure out how to get all the stuff they’re cooking to my Aunt’s house. Because my grandmother is going, everything has to be 100% cooked before she gets there, or be finished on an electric stove. She can’t be anywhere near gas or an open flame – you risk everything blowing up since she’s on oxygen. So my parents are cooking some things here and taking them down….
Happy Thanksgiving to you and I hope that you feel better soon.
