Back in the saddle

I hadn’t realized just how long it has been since I’ve been on OD. I am embarrassed to admit just how few dates I’ve been on.  Two months ago I decided to join match.com.  After a month and a half of little to no traffic my way I decided to change things up.  I made the decision to go to a stir event.  I chose one close to home, that was just a happy hour/mixer.  I had the choice to invite a friend, but decided to be a big girl and go by myself.

When I first arrived there were about 4 women and 2 men.  A few more men came in and we ended up sitting at two high top tables, men at one table and women at the other.  Eventually we pushed the tables together and mingling began.  I started off sitting across from a guy and we were talking about the bone marrow appetizer.  Basically, I ended up daring him to eat it, and he agreed with the stipulation that I would join him.  (which I did, not so great)  A great start to the night, it got other people into a fun, teasing mood.

By the end of the night I was talking to two guys.  One of them "wine guy" is 47.  I always judge men based on the fact that if they look as old as my dad, I don’t want to date them.  He fit this criteria.  He did end up getting me away from the group by talking about wine and his favorite types and we were looking at the wine wall.  (sidebar – later on he said that he wasn’t really a drinker and only had a glass or two at these outings)  I got us back over to the group and a second guy joined our conversation.  He is 42 and we will call him "green egg."  Toward the end of the night the conversation of kids came up.  Wine Guy has two kids, 18 and 19 (one in college) and doesn’t want any more.  Green Egg has three girls 5, 7 & 8.  He’s undecided on more.  I told them both that I did want children, but I really didn’t know what the future had in store for me.  Wine Guy immediately backed off and called for his check.  On his way out he gave me a hug and called me a sweetheart.  ðŸ™‚

Green Egg and I ordered another glass of wine and shut the place down.  As we were paying he asked if I was hungry and did I want to grab dinner.  By this time it was 9:30, I’d had too many glasses of wine to count, a cracker with bone marrow on it and a couple bites off the cheese/meat plate.  I was starving and super tipsy.  We were having a good time so I said yes.  We went to the tavern across the street and had a quick dinner.  I made him drive (I know, I know…I’ve had the lectures from my friends already) and on the way back to my car he played me the Thrift Shop music video.  I think that song is hilarious and was laughing and singing all the way back to my car.  We hugged good-bye and parted ways.

So far this week we’ve texted back and forth a few times.  I don’t know where, if anywhere, this will go, but it was so nice to have a guy show interest.  My ego certainly needed it.  He’s a nice guy, we will see.  ðŸ™‚

Is he heavily into BBQing? Thus “Green Egg”?

Oh geez; I immediately dismissed both guys as being too old. Then I realized, oh ****, they’re NOT.
