The homophobia Project
well well well i went to see a piece of drama last night done by a group called peer productions and it was simply amaxing. i went to see it becuase they got some funding for their pieces from the youth opportunity fund which the youth forum are involved in. so they have created to pieces of drama to tour round schools one called the homophobia Project and the other called xclusions and they wee both brilliant but it the homophobic one i wanted to tell you about.

basically it starts with this blurb:
Imagine a world where everyone is lesbian or gay. All children are brought up by same sex couples and are conceived through artificial insemination. Despite 1 in 9 secondary school students ‘questioning’ their sexuality being hetero is still often viewed as something dirty or wrong. Many young people are bullied at school because they are thought to be heterosexual and ‘hetero’; is used as a word to mean pathetic or stupid.
How would it feel to live in this world
and then from there the whole play was reverse of life as we know it now. it ws incredibly powerful and i no that there are two more shows of it going on at woking arts if you want info on it then go to http://www.peerproductions.co.uk
while speaking to one of the youth workers involved in this she told me that they had a real problem gettin this play into schools, they would get so far and then they would back out saying that the parents wouldnt like their kids seeing this play! well this is exactly why they should be seeing this play! they were also trying to get the funding to turn it into a film to distribute to schools to use as resources but the only funding they could get meant that it had to be completed by march and that was simply impossible!
the ending simply gave me tingles!
then the second piece was trying to tell people that there isnt just one type of person that gets excluded and there isnt just one reason as to why they get excluded and it was a real eye opener!
so all in all i had a really good night and if anyone wants to go see it let me know!!
xx
p.s go to dahab (egypt) in 9 days time!!
was amazing!! 😀
