just chill out, and smoke a joint…

I’m just going to touch on this slightly, because when I open my mouth on OD, I usually get myself into some kind of trouble… I just need to get this off my chest a bit.

Sam and I were watching "Beyond Scared Straight" yesterday before he went to work. The premise is that parents send their children to a youth program that takes out of control youth and sends them to jail for a day, so they can see the error of their ways, and straighten up so that they too don’t end up in such a predicament.

It’s a good program I think, but watching it, I kept cringing, and I could feel my face muscles tighten up every time they mention weed.

One mother, who seemed pretty psycho to me, just my opinion, sent her son to this program because he began skateboarding and smoking weed. He said;

"I like smoking weed, because it makes me a better skateboarder". Which they brought up over and over and over, but he also said that it kept him more focused in general, and balanced.

So his mom freaked out and sent him into this program, which violent kids, thieves and promiscuous girls.

Ok, a little extreme much? As someone who is educated on weed (The pro’s and the con’s), I can agree that 15 is a little young to be smoking, but at the same time, Kid is making A’s and B’s in school, and isn’t this a little harsh cause the boy is smoking a little green?

Seriously, if my teenagers were smoking weed and not drinking I’d be over the moon happy.

I kept heard that marijuana is a "gateway drug"

Oooh kids if you smoke weed, next thing you know you’ll wake up with a needle in your arm and a heroin addiction!

Really? Are you fucking serious with this bullshit?

Marijuana and hard drugs are nothing the same. People don’t just smoke crack because they’ve smoked weed.

If I had to pick, I would say the dangers of alcohol are much worse than weed will ever be.

You know what I used to do when I was drinking? I used to party all night, and sleep around, and fight even. I was young once too, and I acted out… but alcohol intensified all of that. I’m not saying everyone who drinks acted that way, or acts that way, so how can you assume that everyone who smokes weed is going to try something harder.

I can’t tell you why people become heroin or crack addicts, every addiction has a different story.

What I can tell you from my own experience, as someone who smokes weed regularly, is that when I "get high", I sketch, or pick up my guitar, I read a book, or cuddle with my husband and watch movies, anything from mindless comedy to thrilling documentaries.

I’ve driven high, I’m not proud of it, but I can do it. What I’ve never done is drive drunk. If I have even one drink I won’t drive… that’s how much I can’t trust the effect of alcohol on my mind.

I’ve also never been in an accident while driving, or pulled over. Not because of luck, but because I, myself, am very aware while driving. I’m a very responsible driver. If I’m too high to drive, I don’t.

Now that I’m older and wiser, and I smoke much less, I don’t do it at all.

Weed doesn’t change me, I’m not a different person when I’m "high", but I’m a different person when I’m drunk.

I haven’t seen an episode of Intervention devoted to someone’s weed addiction, but at least half are devoted to alcoholism. (Feel free to leave me the link if there is one. I’d like to see it)

I think the problem is that everyone is so afraid of what they’ve been told, and quick to believe, but do your own research. If you really look at the world, and the way it’s presented to you, you’re going to find out you’ve been lied to a lot… and weed is just a small lie you’ve been told.

I don’t try and pretend I’m an expert on something I have no knowledge about… and I can contest that yes someone with an addictive personality, or looking to escape their reality may abuse weed, become addicted.

People become addicted to things all the time, and that’s just the truth of it. But, weed isn’t the reason that people are doing crack and heroin.

I’ve tried Cocaine, and weed and coke are polar opposites.

Before I get ‘reamed out’ for trying a hard drug after weed, let me do some back story.

I was a party girl, and I drank a lot, and went out a lot. The party girl lifestyle I lived is what made me want to try coke. It was the drinking, the environment and the lifestyle, that led me to try coke.

I’ve done it three times, and if I never do it again so be it. C’est la vie.

But by the logic that Johnny Appleseed smoked weed and drank when he was 14, and tried heroin at 16 and became an addict, making weed the gateway drug (really?).

By this same logic… Isha started drinking when she was 15, and tried coke when we was 22, makes alcohol a gate way drug also.

I started smoking weed long after I was getting hammered drunk at high school parties, and clubbing.

But here’s the funny thing, when I traded alcohol for weed, I became more focused and responsible. My grades were better, and I started learning things I had never tried. I started educating myself on life, and the real world, not the media projection most people live in.

I became a better person. I become more patient, more tolerant, and more open minded.

Marijuana is soooo evil. Look at all of the bad things that happened to me. My life is so awful.

Really?

So as this continued, and episode after episode I heard guards, inmates and parents berating marijuana and telling their kids about how awful it is, the cringing changed to laughter, as I looked around at my life and how it changed for the better.

I’m just one person, and I’m sure there are "horror stories" out there. But be responsible for your own fucking actions. Jesus Christ.

You know what I don’t blame for my mistakes? Drugs and Alcohol. Yes I did some things when I was young, that now, that I’m older and more mature I’m not proud of, but I made the decision to drink and party and put myself in those situations, and try those things. There’s no fault but my own there.

So put your pitchforks away, and stop freaking out about weed, because there’s scarier shit out there, there’s bigger problems.

The more you put your focus in a non issue like weed, the bigger real problems become. We’re going to have a harder time getting the children of society off Bath Salts, which you can buy in a convenience store by the way.

Read about that, Bath Salts, and then tell me how scary Marijuana is.

As for the face eating guy in Miami. Who had "Weed in his system", are you for real?! Firstly, here guys working the oil industry are smoking crack instead of weed because it’s out of their system within a shorter span of time, so if they get tested their not dirty. Really…? You have to be an idiot to think that guy brutally attacked someonebecause he was smoking weed.

Try this, get your friends drunk and start a conflict and watch how they handle it.

Then get your friends high and start a conflict and note the differences in how they handle it.

I find its the people who’ve never tried weed who scream the loudest about the ‘horror’ of it.

I’m not saying everyone throw out their beer and wine and start a mutiny on alcohol and legalize weed, but I’m saying… educate yourself on this stuff.

I’m also not saying, everyone go start smoking weed, but shut your mouth about shit you don’t know any thing about.

There’s two sides to every story, and I’m sure I’ll hear the other side of this one.

In non Marijuana related news;

First road trip tomorrow…! Yeah yeah yeah yeah!

Too tired to read the whole entry but promise to get back to it later. So far I definitely like what I’ve heard. Yes, sending an A/B honor roll student to that is MORE than a little rough. Guess whose mom/dad is a bible thumper? They actually did do a study that showed alcohol IS the gateway drug. How many people have been killed/maimed because of someone on alcohol? Not just counting…

the car crashes caused by drunk drivers. I’m talking about people that lost their sense of morality because of what the alcohol did. Not just people that were alcoholics. Good people that woke up and found out that they had intentionally or accidentally killed/maimed someone. Of course this conversation could go on forever so I’m quit while I’m ahead. LoL

Gosh, there would be a whole lot of problems in the world if weed was the gateway drug to the harder stuff. There aren’t many people out there who haven’t at least tried it, so why aren’t there more addicts if that were the case?

Oh girl, you are right on it. Funny thing is last night, I saw cops pull into apartment parking lot (it’s in the back where no one can see it) to arrest some of my neighbors for smoking a joint in their car, the car was on only for heat but I guess it’s pretty suspicious. ALL of them were arrested for possession (assuming they had more than just the joint). Ridiculous way to use our tax dollars.

Also, my mom used to be so very against weed. She never knew I was a smoker until one day, she smoked it herself as my dad was given a prescription for it due to his muscle disorder. Needless to say, she realizes it’s just not what she thought it was. Now we have an open relationship about it, she’s even bought me weed since then! It’s funny how someone’s mind can change once they open their mind.

I didn’t finish this bc I don’t have time but I agree.its drinkers that use hard drugs mostofthetime, not week smokers. I don’t do any drugs but I don’t discriminate or anything, do what you want I say! 🙂

That IS harsh! :/ Did the kid stop smoking weed after that? Ryn: That makes sense, haha. You wouldn’t happen to be married, would you? Long ago I read about this couple that had the same thing happen to them- wherever they went, terrorist attacks seemingly followed.
