Isha, remember this moment.

 A strange thing just happened.

I was sitting back, playing my guitar while watching The Hunger Games. Just chilling, with my guitar, like no other day.

Truth be told, I wished and dreamed about this guitar, for a long time. When Sam gave it to be last year for Christmas, I was elated.

Learning to play an instrument is no easy task. I knew I wasn’t playing enough.

That was, until we moved here. I had the movers put my guitar into storage. We looked at ways for me to have it with me before the wedding, but I was much too terrified that it would be damaged, and after all, I had barely even begun to pay it.

After three months of separation, what little I had learned before, didn’t feel like much.

I’m pretty positive I’m not the only one, who pictured myself with my guitar jamming like a pro, even though I knew it wouldn’t be day one.

Learning an instrument can be frustrating, to say the least. So today, after maybe the ten-thousandth time, I played the intro to ‘Angel’ (Jack Johnson), that strange thing happened.

I felt my fingers switch chords on their own.

To the F# also, the bane of my guitar playing existence, F#.

It was at this moment that I realized, I’m actually picking this up! I have been feeling as if, I’m thinking so hard as to how to move my fingers efficiently for chord changes, I didn’t realize that my muscles were learning the movements on their own as well.

It’s that first step when you’re learning something new, when it clicks in and you’re flooded with this feeling of a small tiny accomplishment in the long journey ahead.
You feel elated, and hopeful, because yes, all of that hard work, and all though it’s not something giant, it’s something to show for all of your blood, sweat and tears.

I logged in just to leave you a congratulatory note 🙂 I’ve been trying to teach myself to play the keyboard, and it’s not easy. Everything you said about the process of learning an instrument is spot on. It’s definitely easier to give up.

Random noter. Good job! After you build up your muscle memory guitar gets much easier. Keep at it!
