You Promised Me …

You promised you’d catch me the moon,
but you gave me a star.

You promised me you’d move the mountains,
you simply threw a few rocks.

You promised me a tsunami,
but all you did was make a few ripples.

They will grow outward,
on to other people.

How many promises will you break,
to those who would chance
giving you their hearts?

How many would you influence,
to treat promises like bubbles?

So pretty to look at,
so nice to see…

But when they get close enough,
their fingers outstretched,
you pop it in front of them,
with one simple caress.

Promises are not bubbles,
to be created then lost.

Promises are foundation,
and trust is the cost.

You haven’t beaten me,
I am not down.
I admit I’m not smiling now,
my heart wears a frown.

But I have something
that you may never know.
The love of acquaintances.
and friends, new and old.

Hide away like a hermit,
or a crab in the sand.
Become a recluse,
forget all that you can.

I am better than that,
and you’ll know in the end…
we were ones who could’ve helped you…
Jason, my lost best friend…
