Things Lost

Well, I’ve lost the Parkway before. The Woodbridge Mall before. My Nana’s house before. But I’ve never actually lost a county before. Yesterday, I managed this feat! Mike and I decided to visit my Nana in Staten Island, since I hadn’t gone up for her birthday earlier this year. Well, I’ve only gone up there once before without my parents. We got into Staten Island just fine, but got lost trying to find the house. The same thing happened this time, but we finally made it up there. Much to Mike’s relief, considering how badly he was saying he had to go to the bathroom! Lol.So, we stayed up there for awhile, and Nana had a piece of the cake I made for her. Yay for cake. Anyway, we left when it was about dusk. We went back outside and packed the stuff into the car, and I couldn’t stop staring across the street, where Muddy Mountain used to be.Yeah, used to be. They cleared the trees out of there, and now are putting the foundations down for houses. I can’t believe it. I mean, Dolly showed me Muddy Mountain when I was about ten. I loved going up there, and going down the hill and swinging on the rope swing. Of course, the rope swing was cut when I was still in middle school, so I only got to swing on it once or twice, but it was still fun.Well, we packed the stuff up, and we headed off. I actually got on the right road to get back, and we were going down, and went over the Outer Bridge. I figured, ‘okay, no big deal, we’ll soon be on Route 9, and that connects to thirty five, so we’ll be home no problem.’I was wrong!!! We got so lost! We wound up on . . . Something like the Turnpike, though I don’t think it was actually the Turnpike. Anyway, we got to one point where we could either go North or West, and I was in the lane to go West. So, we wound up in Hunterdon! Then, I got directions from someone in a church, but they weren’t as clear cut as I was hoping. We kept going, hoping to find where the woman was saying we could go to get back to somewhere familiar. We finally found a Highway 31 and traveled on it for awhile. We were both uneasy at this point. I’d been, frankly, scared for awhile at that point, actually. Mike had suggested pulling over to the next store we saw, except for the most part, there were only trees. Houses once in a while, but we didn’t want to stop at a random house. Finally, there was a QuikChek, and we pulled in there. Mike got a map, and asked a few people for directions. We bought the map, and I was surprised at how comparatively far south we’d actually gotten. Not to mention West. We were near Pennsylvania at one point! Near TCNJ, too. I see now why Jill doesn’t commute from home. Yeesh! So, we finally found a definite route to get home, and we took it. We passed three different malls on the way to getting lost and getting back, too! And none of them were Woodbridge, Monmouth, Freehold, or Menlo Park! I didn’t know New Jersey had this many malls!!So, that’s my story of how I lost Monmouth County. I officially can never laugh about how Dolly’s mom got lost and wound up near the George Washington bridge when she was bringing Dolly down for the Halloween party my sophomore year.Oh, today, I went to K-mart, and had some of those fries again. God, they are good!I can’t wait till Mike’s birthday. I’ve got a surprise party planned with, of all people, Mike Keller. I’m glad that things look like they’re going to work out. But the only thing I don’t like is that he doesn’t want to see Fellowship, or have it played anywhere near him, so we’re probably not gonna be able to watch it since we’re gonna be at his house.I understand that he’s a perfectionist or purest for book-to-movie things, but still. It’s an annoyance, because I’d love if we could all sit down and watch Fellowship, but I do understand his qualms with it. Just because I think they’re the greatest movies since . . . I don’t even know what. I mean, I can’t stand the Harry Potter movie. I haven’t seen Chamber of Secrets simply because I was so disappointed with Sorcerer’s Stone. I understand the purest view, but it still bugs me that he doesn’t even want to show it, I guess is my bottom line.Oh, by the way. I’m officially going to go on a rampaging massacre with a pitchfork on Jason on Wednesday. HE HASN’T WRITTEN A NEW ENTRY AND HE SAID HE’D HAVE IT UP BY THIS PAST FRIDAY!!!!!! ARGH!!!!

Wow…that is worse than when I went to Philly and drove beyond it!! Haha…TCNJ is right on 31. Shoulda called me, I know practically every roadway in central NJ. At the very least get yourself a triple A map 😉 [Jilliebean]

In reference to all those malls, I’m guessing you followed Rt 1 North and passed Quakerbridge, and Brunswick Square, and…oh what’s that other one? Anyway yeah you took my route home 🙂 Hope you liked Mercer County! [Jilliebean]

Ha! HAHAHAHAHAHA! And the GWB was when we came down for 2 weeks in July. We got lost in Elizabeth and ended up GOD ONLY KNOWS WHERE for 7 hours for that Halloween party. And my mom bit my head off for it, too, as if it were my fault. remember the tear tracks in my vamp make-up and how crappy it came out when you tried to fix it? I think I got smeared on poor Ryan! =( Muddy MT. gone? Waaah! [HyacatDuncan]
