Stuck In A Rut?
I came back to my house today after work, and I happened to look in my backyard. I looked at the dead leaves, and the old apple tree, and the clubhouse that now looks so dilapidated. It used to have a blue tarp thing over it for a roof, and there used to be a yellow rope that hung from a branch on a tree nearby. My swingset used to be out there, with the red swing, and the seat thing, and the slide . . .
Tommy and I used to do “the test” on it. We climbed up the slide, went acorss the side-to-side thing, held onto the bar and went across the swing, and finally onto the seat swing.
Anyway, I was looking at the yard, and thinking to myself, what have I done with my life? Where am I going? I’ve written almost four novels, yet are any of them published? Why don’t I send them in? Honestly, I’m afraid of the rejection. I know realistically that I can’t put it off forever. I need to send them in somewhere, and I need to risk being rejected, and I know that I probably won’t be accepted by the first people who see it. Stephen King had given up, but his wife sent his book to the next people on the list, and that was who accepted. Maybe I’ll just have to do that.
:Sigh:: But I don’t want to. I want to know that my stuff is being published. I want to be known for it. I want these things to make a difference in other people’s lives.
I want to get out in the world.
–Notes–
John Grisham sent his first novel out like a hundred times before it got published. so did pretty much everyone who has ever gotten published. If you get rejected, don’t give up. Don’t be afraid of rejection, it’s nearly impossible to get published without a handful of rejection slips. :0) [Quiet Observer]

you should def send your books in, don’t give up. It can’t hurt to try. Otherwise you are going to always wonder what if…. [Mousekawhitz]

Go for it Kate. I’m sending mine this summer. Before you do though, I recommend getting a book on how to publish novels of your specific genre. I’ve done some reading on series publishing myself; there was so much I didn’t know! [Ruby*Tuesday]
