Ow, Ow, Ow, I HATE Sunburn!!!!

Today I volunteered to work at Keansburg from noon to six.  I didn’t know why they were open on a Thursday, but I figured, “Hey, more money,” so I went.  When I got there, this . . . I don’t know how to describe it except to say “gibberish music’ was playing on the loudspeakers.  That’s the first thing that struck me odd.  We never have music playing on the loud speakers.  Secondly, when I began seeing people, they were all men in dress shirts, black pants, black shoes, and Yamaca’s(sp?) on their heads.  And the ones I saw at the start had their entire head shaved crew cut style, save for two longer curls of hair right above either ear.  What the heck???  What is the purpose of that???  I don’t get it!!

Anyway, yeah.  It was Jew day at Keansburg.  I guess a literal Jewish camp of adults and kids were going to differet parts of New Jersey or something and one place they stop, yearly, is the amusement park.  So I saw pretty much every Jew in New Jersey today.  I had Adam Sandler’s Hanaukah song going through my head for a good deal of the day . . .

I don’t have anything wrong with Jewish people, by any means.  I’m not trying to insinuate that, or imply that I didn’t like working there today because of all of them.  But it was just so odd, seeing everyone in long skirts and long sleeved blouses for the women, and dress pants/shirts and the dinner jacket type thing for the men.  And all of the older men had beards!  Why the beards?  And why those curl things?

It was a culture shock, I suppose.  I mean, the kids had fun, I think.  But they were all acting so . . . grown up, in a lot of ways.  I mean, I saw two boys who had dirty shirts.  All the rest of the kids, their white shirts were immaculately clean.  I mean, what kid can manage to keep a white shirt clean for any length of time at an amusement park?

One thing I definitely did appreciate, though.  I saw exactly one person, an older man, with anything nocotine based.  He had a cigar.  That was it.  No one else was smoking, nothing.  I loved that.

Anyway, I got off at six, came home, found out I’d gotten sunburned on the very tops of my shoulders and . . .  like . . . the area above my chest, but below my neck.  Whatever you’d call that.  It hurts, it’s a pain, but you know, I’m glad I was right about one thing.  I bought one of those light, airy poncho-like things to wear over a tank top, which is what I did today.  I see now I should have just worn a T-shirt.  Anyway, I wore the poncho-like thing in the hopes that it would be cool enough to wear during the summer, but protection enough to keep me from getting burned.  It was!  Only the area that it didn’t cover was what got burned.  I just hope that either it rains, or I’m in the Game Room on Saturday and Sunday . . .

About an hour ago I went skating at that rink I found in Union Beach.  It’s nice having an outdoor rink all to myself at night.  I can see myself going there very often.

Oh, Joey, since I know you’re gonna read this, I do love being bombarded with notes!  I was kidding with whatever you read that gave you the idea I didn’t like it.  I do, so if you’ve got stuff to say and you want to note me about it, bombard away!

Okay, I’m done for now.  Bye all!

hey, I was up anyway so I decided to check to see if there was any updates. Know how you feel I hate sunburns too, once I had it on my whole back except for the bicini lines. That’s what I get for not putting on sunblock at the beach. just put some aloe gel on it, that will stop some the pain. Edith

That is cool that you did some volunter work, but what kind of place is Keansburg and did you get my email I sent you. Note me when you can.

Just wanted to say hello. Thanks for your notes. Maybe I will just have to read the Inuyasha manga then. That’s cool that you like that anime as well. It is definitely interesting!

Check out my entry called Cry of the Spirit and tell me what you think of it.
