Not Really In The Christmas Mood . . .
Christmas Shoes
It was almost Christmas time, there I stood in another line
Tryin’ to buy that last gift or two, not really in the Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing ’round like little boys do
And in his hands he held a pair of shoes
His clothes were worn and old, he was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn’t believe what I heard him say
Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It’s Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there’s not much time
You see she’s been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight
He counted pennies for what seemed like years
Then the cashier said, “Son, there’s not enough here”
He searched his pockets frantically
Then he turned and he looked at me
He said Mama made Christmas good at our house
Though most years she just did without
Tell me Sir, what am I going to do?
Somehow I’ve got to buy her these Christmas shoes
So I laid the money down, I just had to help him out
I’ll never forget the look on his face when he said,
“Mama’s gonna look so great!”
Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It’s Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir? Daddy says there’s not much time
You see, she’s been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight
I knew I’d caught a glimpse of heaven’s love
As he thanked me and ran out
I knew that God had sent that little boy
To remind me just what Christmas is all about
Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It’s Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir? Daddy says there’s not much time
You see, she’s been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight
I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight
I’m pretty much not right now. Not only did Mike and I have an argument last night that kept us up until about three in the morning, (see previous entry, the 17th, when it’s up,) but I also told him that I’d drive over to Mike Keller’s to say he wouldn’t be going to the Wars thingy he was supposed to today.
So, after only about four and a half hours of sleep, I woke up, drove over, told Mike Keller and, you know, I can’t help wondering if anyone else he asked had cancelled on him as well. Because he’d said that they were leaving for some other part of New Jersey either at, or close to ten in the morning. Yet, when I went to his house, at just about ten AM, he literally looked like he’d just gotten out of bed. In any case, I felt really bad, because he seemed not only annoyed, which was to be expected, but disappointed. Plus, when I was walking back to my car, I wasn’t watching where I was going, and I hit one of these large Christmas light up balls that they have strung around their porch. I actually cut my forehead on the damned thing. It’s nothing serious, though. I am okay.
So, I came home, told Mike what I’d told Mike Keller, and went back into my room. A headache was setting in, and I wanted to get more sleep before it became any worse. I laid back down, but my mom came and tried to bother me about the laundry I have in the hall. I just closed and locked my door. Luckily, she got the hint. I guess I was asleep for about two and a half hours when Mike came in and said that it was a little after noon, and that Dan had just called and asked if we wanted to meet him at FunTime America. So, I grinned, started happily wiggling, and got up a few minutes later. I never pass up a chance for a good DDR game. And I gotta admit, Dan gives me a good DDR game.
We got to FunTime America a little before one. I’d wrapped my legs first, because the ace bandages I got really do help my legs not feel like they’re going to collapse out from under me. I think it’s the fact that before, my muscles were overextending, and now, they’re held to a certain point. I consider it worth the trouble, in any case. So, Dan showed up about twenty minutes after we did, and he and I DDRed. I think I played about four games? Maybe five, cuz I did two solo ones. Hmm. Maybe six or seven, then. Cuz I think I did about three or four competition ones with Dan. In any case, he beat me in three rounds once again. Though in my defense, one of them, I purposely put a challenge to myself and used eight arrows, while he only had four.
It was fun, in any case. At one point, Dan picked this one song, frankly, I am now nicknaming it the “Murder Song.” Because that’s what it does to your legs. It murders ’em. Plus, it’s a complicated one. I think he and I, and ONLY he and I, have managed to pass that song once. He and Mike failed it, I failed it on my own, Dan and I failed it every other time we’ve played it, and we failed it today. Anyway, though, he said something like, “Call this revenge.” I have a feeling he was referring to last night. But hey, if we can get vengeance on one another by playing DDR, so much the better. 🙂
Around two, we split off, to go back to the house, put gas in my car, get food, and go to Barnes and Noble, so Mike could actually do some Christmas shopping. When we stopped back at the house, though, I found out that Dan had stopped by the house after Mike and I left, and he was supposed to give me the message that work had called for me. Well, I called over to the store, and they asked if I could come in today. I said I couldn’t, they said okay, and then confirmed that my hours for tomorrow weren’t 10-3, like I thought that I’d have, hoped I’d have, and mentioned before that I wanted. Nope, instead, I work 2-7. So, basically, I’m gonna miss out on caroling with the Youth Group.
I think what I’ll do, though, is when I come home, I’ll call over to Ryan’s, and see if anyone is still there. If they are, maybe I’ll stop on by their house. (The Youth Group always goes back to Ryan’s and has hot chocolate and stuff after caroling.) So, if anyone’s still there, I’ll do that. At least then I’ll get to see some people.
It sucks, though. I don’t want to miss out on the caroling . . . And no, I’m not thinking about calling out of work to go sing. I can’t. I can’t do it to them this close to Christmastime, when the store is busier, and I can’t do
it to myself, because I need the money I’m gonna get for other Christmas gifts. So basically, I’m stuck. I have to work, and can’t go caroling. ::Sighs:: Oh, well. There’s always next year, I suppose.
After we left the house again, we went to Barnes and Noble, Mike picked up a couple of things, I browsed, we left, talked about where we wanted to go to eat, and decided on Friendly’s. (He said he decided on that because it was his way of apologizing for everything last night.) So, we ate there, and as always, it was good food, good ice cream, and as we drove home, we passed the manger setup this one church has. I parked in the parking lot, and we got out to take a look around.
Oh, yeah! At Friendly’s. there was this one waitress, actually someone who waited on us before, who was talking to one of the girls behind the counter. And I heard the one behind the counter mention Shrek 2, and she says that that one waitress looked like the fairy godmother. I turned and looked at the woman, and realized, “Oh, my God, she’s right.” And said as much, too. It was so weird, though. I never even thought about that, but she really does!
Anyway, there was this donkey at the manger setup, and Mike and I were both making jokes about “does he talk?” And I swear to God, when we said that out loud to the donkey, it nodded! “He can fly!” “He can fly!” “He can talk!”
When we came back home, I wanted to neaten up my room, so Mike helped me sweep/vaccuum/move furniture, and now my room’s a lot neater. still wanna do stuff in it, but I can do that tomorrow. And Monday when I get off work and come back from the mall. (I’m gonna see who I still need to get stuff for, and decide if I can do it Monday. If I can, I will, if I can’t, no biggie, I’ll just wait and give whoever whatever at the Christmas party.) Lindsay!!! I still need to pick up something for her! Okay, to the mall I go! There’s something absolutely perfect for her there. It’s this wooden plaque kinda thing you can hang on the wall, and it has pegs for putting coats on, and it has “Lindsay” inscribed on it, and a pair of ballet pointe slippers on one side. She’ll love it! She’s been dancing, specifically ballet, for I don’t even know how many years. Plus, maybe I can pick her up this oe ornament we have at the dollar store of a dancer.
I’m glad my room’s neater now. I just have to switch over some of the wall unit stuff, and my Lord of the Rings figures, and it should be good.
Okay, I’m gonna go. It’s actually after two, so technically, it’s the 19th, but whatever. It’s still the 18th to me. But in any case, I need sleep.
Bye! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Don’t you love when your room is clean?Makes u sleep better..lol
