Don’t Mix Skating And DDR . . . Believe Me

My Mood:   — In Pain . . .

Okay, so yesterday, I came back from work and got ahold of Colleen.  We’d made plans to go to the roller rink in South Amboy.  After I got off work, I went to the rink to see if they had sessions and luckily they did.  One at four thirty and one at seven thirty.  Colleen said we should go to the four thirty since she was meeting Bryan for something around eight.  So I went over there, hung out at her place for about an hour and then we left for the rink.

Just like the time I went with Jason, we were the only ones there for a good twenty minutes, half an hour.  I LOVE having the rink to myself.  I swear, I’d love to open a rink just so one day out of the week, I could have it all to myself and just skate around, however I wanted.  Practice singe axels and whatnot . . .

Anyway.  Of course there was the DDR machine there, so I was psyched about that.  But first, I got out on the rink and just started skating, swirling around the rink while Colleen was still tying her skates.  When she finally got out there, I passed her and she called to me, “Show off!”  So next time I passed her, I did a one eighty and skated backwards past her.    Yeah, I suppose I am a show-off . . .  Lol.

So after a bit, I realized I really needed a drink.  I went over and got one, so did Colleen, and we sat down at one of the tables.  Then I had requested they play Bring Me To Life and as I was finishing my soda, it started playing.  So I went out there, flew around the rink while singing the song, then sailed back onto the carpet and collapsed at the table with Colleen.  Lol.  Yeah, in case you can’t tell, I’m a good skater.

Anyway, I think then was when we went over to play DDR.  Colleen didn’t have four quarters, so I said I’d do a game alone while she got them.  Oh.  My.  God!  NEVER play DDR until AFTER you’re done skating.  Your legs will suffer for it, I guarantee you.  Well, admittedly, they might not have suffered as much i not for that second song.  The first one was this great one that I sometimes hear on the radio and it’s a pretty easy one to DDR to.  But then when I was going through the songs trying to see if YMCA was an option, I accidentally pressed the button for picking a song.  It was one I’d never heard of and it was one of the more difficult ones on the Light setting.  But I was like, ‘All right, I’m good.  I can handle this.’  I handled it, but my God, did my legs hurt at the end!  I went back to the first one after that.  And it sucks, cuz you only get three rounds.

I told Colleen my legs had suffered enough, though, and that I was going back out on the rink.  It was around then that all the kids were coming, cuz that time period is where a lot of the birthday parties and whatnot take place.  And I did something that I haven’t done since I was a kid.  I went around, helping out some of the girls who couldn’t really skate.  One was this girl who looked to be about twelve or thirteen, and she actually said to me she had no idea what she was doing.  She was standing on the carpet near one of the openings for . . . I’m not sure how long.  However long it takes me to go around the rink about four times.  I finally stopped next to her and asked if she wanted a hand.  So, I helped her around about a third of the rink and then she said she was gonna get off.  I saw her in sneaker not too much later.  Spoilsport.  Lol.  I just can’t imagine coming to a rink and not spending the majority of your time out on said rink.

There was this other girl, a blonde one, who I saw come out on the rink and she was like, attached to the wall.  But even that wasn’t helping her much.  The first time I offered a hand, she said no thanks, but about five, ten minutes later, I offered again and she said yeah, she actually did need the help.  The majority of the second half of my time there was spent helping her and this other girl who was one in a set of twins.

Then, I was all geared up for them to play the Chicken Dance and Hokey Pokey.  Not to mention YMCA,  I mean, they always play those songs at a roller rink!  But instead, when they called everyone for the parties out to the rink, they told the kids to take off their skates for this one song and then Cottoneye Joe.  On the upside, I learned the dance for Cottoneye Joe.  Lol.    See, there should be some kind of little dancing smiley or something.

Anyway, Colleen had actualy crapped out on skating long before that.  She quit once the majority of the kids got there, saying that she didn’t want to bowl any of them over and whatnot.  So, that sucked, but whatever.  It was okay.  I mean, like a said, the second half of the time I was there, I was helping those two girls.  At times, simultaneously.  Which is why my arms hurt so much today.  Lol.  See, the last time I helped kids out at a roller rink, I was a kid.  Thereby also, I was the same height as these kids.  Cuz those two girls, the blonde one and the twin?  They must have been about eight or nine.  And I was taller than both of them, so my arms suffered for it.  So did my right wrist, but that’ll be okay.  So will my arms, but still . . .    Ow . . .

Anyway, the blonde one’s mom actually thanked me for helping her daughter out, saying that she probably wouldn’t have been on the rink anywhere near as much if I hadn’t.  And I guess Colleen said that the daughter was really happy I helped her out, too.  So, yay.

After we left, I dropped Colleen off at Bryan’s and before my cell phone died, we arranged that instead of her mom, I’d pick up Denny from work.  So I did that, drove around for a bit, came home, changed, flopped into bed, and went to sleep.    I don’t think I could’ve moved if I wanted to.

Lol.  I woke up this morning, went to the bathroom, came back and set my clock and the alarm, figuring okay, I’ll wake up around ten thrity.  But Pidgey had other plans.  He started whistling.  So of course, I had to whistle back and say “Good bird,” when he did the wolf whistle properly.  Yay for birdie learning skills.

And now I’m just sitting on the computer, typing this, wishing my different parts would stop hurting, and knowing that I should plug my cell phone in.  Okay, I’m gonna end this entry now and go do that.

Bye.
