Death Penalty

Should we have it, or not?

To be honest, I don’t think we should have the death penalty.  I mean, it’s supposed to be used for people who do things like the Oklahoma bombing, right?  The deliberate murder of numerous, or even just one, people/person.

Yeah, everyone might feel that they deserve to die, that they should die, that at the very least, they don’t deserve to live, but does that mean that we should exact that revenge?

Cuz, truly, that seems to be the only thing the death penalty really does.  It lets us "get revenge" on the one who committed whatever heineous (<–sp?) act.

That’s no reason to exact the death penalty.  That makes the ones doing it no better than the one they’re expiring.

And don’t give me that whole ‘painless death’ thing by lethal injection.  Just because you’re putting them to sleep without the same pain they caused to others doesn’t mean they’re gonna be any less dead.  (Logic to ponder: Why do they sterilize the needles for lethal injections?  <–Does this remind anyone else of a yellow Beastboy from the cartoon show of Teen Titans?)

Anyway!  Then there’s always the fact that there are times cops screw up.  What happens if you’ve got the wrong guy and he’s put to death?  You can’t exactly pull a Dr. Frankenstein and ressurect them and say, "Oh, sory about that, here you go, have your life back."  No.  They’re dead.  And if it’s the wrong person, then doesn’t that especially make the ones exacting the death penalty murderers?  Cuz maybe they didn’t know he was innocent at the time, but they’ve still murdered an innocent man.

Yeah, this is somewhat less inspired than my other controversial topics, but . . . eh.  I don’t know.  Give me your thoughts!  And I’ll probably come out with more YouTube things soon.

I’m for it, only when it cannot be disproved that a person commited terrible acts. One could argue that “no one has the ability to take a life away; Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness!” But, I see it as: If you deliberately take someone’s life (self-pereservation aside), you should have your rights taken from you. I’m a little confused about a definite answer, though. ~
