Baby, till your heart belongs to me…
Music: David Gray – Be mine
You know I’m kinda an eclectic sort of guy. Sure, I’m kinda conservative economically and when talking about foreign relations, but I honestly count FDR amoungst my heroes. A democrat! OMG!
Probably because of the New Deal. I don’t know. I kinda like the fact that he pretty much rebuilt america. The WPA, the TVA, that sort of stuff really makes my imagination run amok. I love that somehow the government was able to con, er, -vince thousands of people to work for shitty wages and build infrastructure. Now the alternative was pretty damn bleak, but damn…
Where are politicians like him? Where is the cry for solving the unemployment problems by re-envisioning this pioneering sort of labor program? Why must we GIVE money to those who are unable to find work instead of providing a job for them?
The objectivist in me balks at this sort of thing. The realist in me likes it. Unfortunately, that same realist sees that there is no way that the US will adopt such a program at this time, hell, would anyone work for such poor wages in this day and age? Are we so weak and spoiled that we could not accept this sort of “Deal” again?
I have no answers, I’m just a cat, but I really like FDR irregardless. 🙂
True. If you can’t find a well-paying job these days, you just deal drugs. It’s way more profitable than digging ditches…

Americans are very weak and spoiled. We expect to have it all on a pristine white doily-covered silver platter. And we wanted it yesterday, dammit!
