taking a vacation

After years of talking and dreaming and planning a long and extravagant trip by train all the way to the west coast with my daughter, we are taking a smaller trip that we can actually plan and afford:)

Three years ago she and I spent a week in DC with my brother and his family but we went to babysit my niece and my mom paid for the plane tickets.  This time we are only spending 3 days in DC and then we are taking the train to Boston and spending 3 days there too.  The airplane tickets went up and down in price over the last 3 months that I have been trying to plan this trip fitting it in between other people’s trips and vacations.  Earlier this week I booked the tickets to DC and the train tickets, hesitating and waiting for the finally booking from boston because of uncertainty about where we will be staying.  Yesterday I finally found an affordable motel as a backup plan and decided to book the tickets home but waited until this morning so I wouldn’t be as tired and make silly typos or mistakes.  Well, the tickets went down by $25 per ticket between last night and this morning!!!!

Now more planning begins, what to take and what suitcases to take, there is now a charge for all checked luggage to the US and between Canada and the US so we will only take one suitcase.  My dd has to take all 3 of her american girl dolls, they are 18" each and heavy, sigh.  I bought her a nice and expensive pair of sandals with walking in mind earlier this summer but they gave her a blister and the soles are suede and as she has worn them, the soles now feel weird to her, hurray for sensory issues.  The only sandals she really likes are her maryjane style crocs.  I have to get her new sandals before our trip and also a few more lightweight tops too.

As for me, I need to cast on at some point a fun and easy knitting project for the trip.  We have 8 hours on the train by the way but it is a beautiful trip up the eastern edge of the US from DC to Boston.

I have also been googling yarn shops in Boston too:)  I have been to Boston several times over the last few years and have visited several nice shops.  Windsor Button in particular has a large selection and sells a lot of amazing buttons too as the name might suggest.

The summer is flying by.  I had thought that life would slow down a little in July after prom and grad but that hasn’t really happened and now planning for the fall (classes etc.  for dd) seems to be looming.
