sore wrists
I did something to my wrists on saturday, carrying a stack of library books:( My #4 son calls this OLS, old lady syndrome. typing and knitting are both okay but picking up anything heavy or trying to chop, stir or mundane activities like turning the lid on a jar are all difficult and painful. I am getting a glimpse into what arthritis must be like and it’s not pretty.
This has got me thinking again about eating and weight. I grew up in a day when a woman could never be too thin and with a very few exceptions in my life most of which occurred while very pregnant, I have been lucky to be an average size and weight without having to do much about it. Now as I am firmly into middle age, I find myself eating less not because of fears of weight gain but because I have a ridiculously sensitive digestive system, many foods bother me and too much of even the foods that don’t bother me leave me uncomfortable, miserable even quite often. My knees are finicky enough as it is too, I know that if I added any significant amount of weight that they would give me pain on a frequent basis too. So, while I would love to relax and not pay so much attention to what I ingest and how much, the consequences of that are not ones I want to live with. Stretching and getting enough exercise make a big difference to my daily well being as well, I am grateful for a dh who works fulltime at a job that he enjoys and having a special needs daughter means that nobody is bugging me about getting a job now that my youngest is a teenager:)
So, isn’t it a good thing that I have knitting to turn to (when I am not playing with my iphone turned ipod touch).
I am insanely blessed. And I’m thinking of joining the gym behind my apartment. I’m going to call the owner and find out if they’ll barter massage for membership. Hope you’re in less pain soon. With a smile…
