Sore, but Still Pumped
I met with Trainer Tim yesterday after work. I knew when I woke up that morning that I was going to have my butt handed to me. That pretty much happened. I told him that he had to be devil spawn to be coming up with routines like the one we did yesterday. He just laughed and told me jog around the baseball field two times and then we would be starting.
Yesterday we did Power Thrusts (I think that’s what he called them.) You start in a squat position, pick up two 10lb weights while you’re down there, while you stand up use the momentum of the upward motion to push the weights up over your head. Drop them to shoulder height, squat, repeat.
Followed by Inclined Pull-Ups. Because I hurt my chest last week and am still healing from that, Trainer Tim has significantly altered the way I work my body so that I do not hurt myself further. We meet at a park near my house. He brought with him two rings attached to long straps with ratchets on the ends of them, and attached them to the fence. Surprisingly little to no pulling in my chest area.
Followed by Inclined Push Ups, also done with the rings. These ones hurt a little, until I adjusted the way I had my hands and wrists lined up. Which was just plain weird. But I did them, and without dying.
I did each exercise 21 times in a circuit, then 15 times in a circuit, then 9 times in a circuit. I did each exercise for a total of 45 reps. I tell you what- it doesn’t sound like much, but it was super intense. I am in a world of hurt today. Its all good hurt. That dull ache of muscles indignantly asking why they are suddenly being used. Its a wonderful feeling.
Trainer Tim also explained to me how to do High Walking Kicks with the warm up routine he had given me. I didn’t know what he meant by it, so I kind of just used my imagination and said I would figure it out. I felt really stupid walking around my block doing what I thought was supposed to be High Walking Kicks. But every time I started doing them, I felt like John Cleese in the Ministry of Silly Walks sketch from Monty Python. And eventually, I just ended up doing that walk from the sketch. Much to the amusement of the 5 Puerto Rican guys sitting on their porch watching me.
High Walking Kicks are supposed to be like the beginning of this video here. Which is actually…. not much better than being a participant in the Ministry of Silly Walks.
I have to say, by the time I left our session yesterday I was so pumped. I was really looking forward to getting to today’s Daily Workout, I was going to pump it out. I am not as pumped today as I was yesterday. And I have to say, I’m glad Trainer Tim emailed me this morning telling me that today was my Day of Rest.
Which is even better, because now I get to do some much needed knitting. I’m working on a pair of socks to send to Michelle. They’re called ‘Under the Radar,’by Julie Beal. I’m doing them in MadelineTosh Lightweight Merino, in the ‘Fathom’ colorway. Which is blue, much like the picture. But the ‘Fathom’ color has a mix of deeper blues in it. Its a really gorgeous color. I’ll post pictures when I finish the project.
Today, in addition to Netflix and Knitting, as well as Day of Rest, is also Day of Cleaning. Sam and I are having Googs and Justin over tonight, and…. the house is disgusting. I hate how when I get busy or distracted with life, the house suffers. Badly. But I have the whole day to get it done, so I’m looking forward to it.
Well. I was looking forward to it. Until the cat threw up on the carpet. Its a good thing I was planning on cleaning today anyway…. right?
