Ringing in the New Year
I feel like New Year’s wasn’t really New Year’s. It didn’t feel like the end of 2012. Don’t get me wrong, I partied. And I partied hard. But it felt like just another party. Nothing special.
Sam and I went to Chris and Jeremy’s this year for their NYE party. Meg and Jess came for a little while, and it was nice seeing all of Sam’s friends. But it felt like so much was missing. It just wasn’t the same without everyone else being there.
And I’m pretty sure I missed the countdown to midnight in favor of praying to the Porcelain Godess. I haven’t gotten sick from drinking in a really long time, and I can’t say that I had missed it. It really sucked. I didn’t even get to do my typical ‘drunk dial everyone in my phone because OMG its midnight on NYE’ thing that I always do. I called Meg. And I called Jess. I only know that because I looked at my call history this morning. And then I called Christina at about 12.45am. I vaguely remember leaving her a voicemail, but I don’t know what I said in it. Probably something regrettable and embarassing, because what else would I be doing on NYE while I’m plastered?
I spent all of today in a constant state of hungover. We hung out at Perry’s until about 7pm give or take. We ate breakfast around noon, and then watched movies and ate noshies all day. I felt terrible the entire day and really wanted to be home, in my bed, with Sam, and no one else.
When we left Perry’s to come home, well. That’s when the adventure began. We’re traveling down Route 69 through Wolcott, on our way home. And there’s a loud BANG and the truck jolted. And a second later half the truck fell at weird angle as the driver’s side rear wheel fell off. And let me tell you, you haven’t truly experienced excitement until you’ve gone through this kind of experience. It wasn’t like getting a flat tire. There was a lot more noise to it than that. And it was a little funny as we slow down to a stop and the tire passes us and continues rolling down the hill.
It really sucked.
Especially because it was about 18 degrees outside.
Sam retrieved the wheel and luckily had just picked up some spare lug nuts. And with some creatve finagling with a jack that wasn’t designed for his truck, he eventually got the wheel back on with little to no problems and we were on our way.
He says he had just put the snow tires on the truck on Sunday, and he must have not tightened the nuts enough on that wheel.
This was not exactly how I imagined ringing in the new year. Luckily, I’m looking at this in a ‘glass half full’ kind of way, and I’m going to say that we’re really kicking this year off with a bang. And since we’re starting the year off on the wrong foot, then it can only get better from here on out.
So here’s to what I’m hoping will be an awesome year!

Oh I love you. And what a terribly scary experience, but the way you wrote about the tire continuing to roll down the hill? Cracked me up. Are you still up for the New Year’s redux on January 19th? Because I’m hoping everyone is going to be feeling better by then, and we can REALLY celebrate it. *HUGS* Love,
