24 Days…

…until Christmas, and there is so much knitting to be done.

Although I have to say, I have been busting out these hats like its my job. I’ve decided to go simple and chunky this year. Bigger yarn knits up faster. And just a plain knit cap with a spiral decrease keeps it simple and classy. I’m spicing it up a little bit here and there, of course. But the general idea is to keep it simple. For my cousin Bryan’s hat, I made a red cap with a beige stripe in the middle. For Elizabeth’s hat, I knit a quick little flower and appliqued it to the side of the hat, along with a little green leaf to add a bit of color variation. But that took hardly no time at all.

For Sam’s cousins (Ben and Caleb) I’m making ‘Iron Man’ hats. The gold-ish-beige for the brim of the hat, and red for the cap. I’m going to duplicate knit the Iron Man arc reactor image into the front of it when I’m finished. Last I saw them they were both obsessed with Iron Man. (Well before The Avengers came out, that is.) So I’m hoping they will be a hit. I don’t have a pattern for the arc reactor image, but I think I’ll be able to wing it. I surprised myself with making that flower. Duplicate stitching can’t be that hard, can it?

Last year, Sam’s mom gave me this whole great big stash of 100% Peruvian Wool that she got at a local shop she frequents. 3$ for a pack of this yarn, three skeins in a pack, 155 yards in each skein.

…That’s a lot of yarn.

But yeah. Hats are the ‘thing’ this year, I think. They’re quick, they’re easy, and I can get halfway done with one while watching an episode of ‘Supernatural’ on Netflix. So I’m thinking there are going to be many hats made.

I cast on another hat in the pink, there. I’m going to make it just like I did with the fuchsia one I made for Elizabeth. Except instead of making a pink flower like I did for Elizabeth’s hat, I’m going to make a fuchsia flower. I think I’m going to make this one for Tina. I know how much she enjoys pink.

Well, Sam is brushing his teeth. So I guess I had better get on that, too.
