full.

The other day I messaged a friend saying, "I wish we had a gang that would go to the beach and bring blankets and a guitar and build a bonfire and sing songs and be merry."  I just want to get every little bit of summer out of this year.  I want to live it and love it and fill it up.

We went to Keith’s friend’s cottage on Sunday evening.  And we sat around the bonfire, beers in hand, talking, laughing, loving life.  And I felt happy.  We went to sleep and could hear the cottage-y sounds through the open window.  And smell the smouldering fire in our clothes.  And we breathed in the long weekend.  We woke up early and sat on the dock with our feet in the water and were quiet.  The still morning, calm and sparkling.  We drove to the store and bought breakfast supplies while half our camp slept, comfortably spooning, blankets and river dried hair everywhere.  They looked just like puppies at the pet store.

We cooked and cleaned and ate together.  We danced and sang to the strange music mix we played.  We blew up every inflatable pool toy we could find and floated around the dock, soaking up the sun, soaking up life.  The water was heaven.

We made our beds and packed our bags.  We hugged and shook hands and smiled our tired smiles.  We agreed this weekend was fantastic.

We drove home, each of us much quieter than we had been on the way to the lake.  Sleepy, satisfied, tanned and freckled.

The first long weekend of summer.  Full.  Perfect.
