第二次大戰時期，由於瑞士是中立國，德國不能對其動武，但是看到許多猶太人紛紛跑到瑞士避難，德國邊境的指揮官心裡還是很不舒服。有一天，一位德國的士兵奉命送了一個包裝非常漂亮的禮盒，要給瑞士的指揮官。當這位指揮官小心翼翼的打開盒子，裡面裝的居然是一堆臭不可聞的馬糞。
第二天，瑞士的士兵也送了一個精美的禮盒給德軍的指揮官。「想也知道，他們會送什麼。」德軍指揮官站得遠遠的說。
可是當士兵打開禮盒時，裡面裝的竟是最高級的瑞士乳酪。還附了一張紙條，上面寫著：「謹遵照貴國的習俗，也送上敝國最好的產品。」
