Putting the Psych Dept. to the Test
Alright I have e-mailed two advisors in the Psychology Department, one in the Sociology Department and my normal advisor. So far I have not heard anything from either of the two in the Psych Dept. the lady from the Sociology Dept. got back to me the day after I sent her an e-mail and my normal advisor sent me an e-mail with a phone number and told me to call (apparently he doesn’t make his own appointments). Needless to say the advisors at my school are terrible (except of course in the Sociology Dept. ). This has to be part of the reason why I decided to major in Sociology and only minor in Psychology. I have been trying for months to meet with someone in the Psychology Deptartment and when I finally did (this was before classes ended for the summer) she cancelled because she was "sick" and when I asked her about recheduling she never got back to me. So this morning I took matters into my own hands. I e-mailed half of the professors in the Psych Dept. which is about 6 of them. It will be interesting to see how many of them (if any) reply. I’m sick and tired of waiting around for them to get back to me-only to be cancelled on.
Sounds like alot of frustration. I am going to miss the whole small school atmosphere when I go to a university. I love the being able to just find the professor and tell them I need to talk to them.

Well dont get too discouraged a lot of them are probably still ‘on vacation’ for another couple of weeks.

Yeah, academics are weird people. But, if you don’t hear back from anyone, you should really write a letter to the dean…this is not the way you run a department.

Sounds exactly the way I would have handled it. You tried, you waited, you got the run-around, so e-mailing all of them is the next logical step. Hopefully at least one of them will actually put forth some effort to help you!

Soooo….are you still waiting?
