Wind and Rain

I like having things planned to do for my day, but I knew today was going to be a big one.  The day started off on an interesting step, with it pouring rain at 4:30am when I left my house.  I was too cautious to use my wipers incase it broke the glass but I accidently hit the lever yesterday driving home and once you hit the wiper lever you can’t stop it half way – you’ve gotta let it make its round.  i expected the glass to do something, like chip, but it was fine.  I saw a few tiny pieces of glass fly off into the wind but the smash wasn’t anything too big to fall in on me or something.  I always pick up a workmate on my way to work on Thursday mornings, so I went via her place to pick her up, so she got a good sqizz at the smash.  She said ‘Wow that’s nasty’.

After my half day at work (which was busy as usual but went surprisingly fast) I went to my dentist for my appointment.  I always eat gum and drink and swirl my mouth with water before going to the dentist as I figure having a clean as possible mouth would be easier for him.  I wasn’t looking forward to it, especially the needle that needs to be used to numb my gums.  I absolutely hate it because it’s so painful.  I got through it though, both of them.  I had to have two fillings, and they were done in no time!  I was in and out of there in 20 minutes.  It came to $198 but I only had to pay $79 thanks to my health insurance – woohoo!  last week my clean was $145 and I didn’t have to pay a thing so i figure $343 worth of dental work for $79 isn’t bad.  There was a different assistant on this time and she was the same chick I saw 6 months ago.  I think she likes me as a person because she’s always so cool to me, cracking jokes and stuff.  I like her.  Maybe she’s just good at her job.

After the dentist I went to the windscreen repair place.  I was way early, having been at the dentist for a less amount of time than I had predicted I’d be there.  So I drove there anyway and parked on the street near the place.  next thing I knew my phone rang and it was John from Instant Windscreens (I tried Windscreens O’Brien but they were booked out) asking if I could possibly bring my car in earlier.  I said yeah I was on my way!  So that worked out well.  I drove around the block and drove in.  I pulled my car into the bay they directed me into, and I grabbed the things I needed such as my bag wallet phone and umbrella (as it was still pissing down rain) and got out of the car.  One of the workmates motioned to his workmates the smash in my windscreen and said ‘Cricket ball?’ I answered the question although it wasn’t directed at me, saying ‘yeah I think so’.  He took a couple of other details and said it’d be three hours, and I tottled off out into the pouring rain, backpack on my back and walked toward Sandgate Road.  It wasn’t that far, and I’d figured what else was I gunna do for three hours?

I wandered along the footpath with the intention of going to the Pet Hypermarket, as I knew it was close somewhere.  A bit of a walk later and I was there.  I looked at the doggies and kitties and fishies.  I was being one of those annoying customers who browse and don’t buy a thing.  After that i went up the road a bit and walked around Officeworks.  I looked at a few of the computers there, but they are a bit out of my price bracket – cool to look though because I want an idea of the sort of computer i want.  I spend a fair bit of my time on the computer so I figure it’s a pretty valuable investment really.  This comouter I’m on now will have to do for a while, although it’s pretty slow at times.  I then wandered back up the footpath I’d came up and walked in the other direction, as I noticed a Night Owl in the distance.  Turns out it was a little shopping complex, and I wasn’t sure what i could and couldn’t eat, having just been to the dentist, but I looked at the menu on a Thai takeaway place and it read ‘Thai Curry’ $8.50 – all served with rice and a can of drink.  I thought that sounded alright so I ordered Thai Green Curry (which I love!) and it took 10 minutes, but I went back and got my meal and asked ‘do I just grab my drink?’ and the asian lady was like ‘no drink!’.  I thought about protesting the false advertising, but took it in my stride and walked out.  I wasn’t giving her the satisfaction of paying extra for a drink when I both (a) knew I was right, and (b) could buy a healthier iced tea from the Night Owl next door, which is exactly what I did.  I also know I won’t go back to that place, because although the meal was actually nice, false advertising is a form of lying and i don’t appreciate being lied to.  There wasn’t really anywhere to sit down and eat in hte small complex as, yes, it was still pissing down rain, so I huddled myself in a small corner on the ground and ate my meal.  Thankfully they’d given me a plastic fork.  I worried there for a bit that they hadn’t provided one, but they had and a napkin also.  I’d ordered medium hotness, so it was perfect for me.  I love that fair bit of spiace but not too much.  The iced tea worked well in soothing my turning tongue haha.

I walked back after that.  My umbrella was being pelted with rain, as it had been most of the afternoon with me walking everywhere.  I found a Repco and decided to wander around there, even though it was small, and I decided to ring Kiki, as I rang her last Thursday and she answered, so i took the chance that she might be free again.  She was!  Yay!  We talked for a fair while (at least my credit didn’t run out) and I mentioned that I was freezing my arse off, walking around aimlessly everywhere through shops (and not buying a thing) and I looked like a drowned rat on non-prescription pharmacuticals.  She made me laugh at least and it was good to chat a bit.  She was in the process of installing her internet, so hopefully she’ll be uploading entries to OD again soon! 🙂

I left Repco and kept talking to Kiki all the way back to officeworks.  I sat there for a whilwe under cover chatting then realised there was a Campbells Cash and Cary right next door.  I didn’t even realise what it really was, as I’d never been there, but the words ‘Wholesale confectionary’ caught my attention!

I wandered up to the entrance and I see

med to entertain Kiki who was laughing at how stupid my comments were about how amazing I thought that place was.  At least now I know where Gary bought my birthday present from last year.  He bought me an entire carton of Strawberry Freddo Frogs.  I’m definitely gunna be going back there at some stage, although I don’t think it’s all that wholesale – maybe a little.

I said goodbye to Kiki and walked back to the windscreen place.  It hadn’t stopped raining all day I swear.  Even now as I type this it’s still raining outside.  I saw my car was in their customer parking bays and also saw my new windscreen.  YAY!  I went inside and a lady served me.  $275, which is what I was quoted.  It was kinda cool driving home knowing I had a new windscreen.  It’s the newest park of my crappy car haha.

So I was wanting today’s events to be over and now they are, thankfully.  It was no where near as bad as I thought it might be, effortly and financially.  I expected to pay near $500, but in reality I spent about $365.  And I don’t have to have a third dental appointment, he said ‘cya in 6 months’.  Yay!  I’ll still keep an eye on my teeth though, as they tend to cause me problems, damn things, but so far so good.

I’m meant to be meeting a mate for coffee tonight but the weather’s kinda dreary.  Might raincheck.  And I’m now meeting my friend from the USA on Sunday, because I was too booked out today, so rescheduled.  I got to decide to to do to entertain her.  It’ll be good to see her again after 9 years.  See how much we’ve both changed 🙂

Two work work days to go til the weekend.  I’m just chilling for the rest of my half-day – tryna warm up now after being so cold in that wind and rain.

That doesn’t seem too expensive for a new windscreen. At least they got it done quickly. I’m quite surprised it’s rained all day. I thought it would have stopped by now! I definitely have to go to that confectionary shop!

I love it when everything runs smoothly. I know what you mean about false advertising; that would have annoyed me too although I probably still wouldn’t say anything to the people in the resteraunt. I would still grumble to other people though:)
