Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras 2009 Photos

Pretty Flowers!

This is (as you can see) the Queen Mary 2 – the biggest ship in the world. I didn’t even know it was going to be in Sydney at the time, we just happened to time the trip perfectly right. Apparently each person on board (about 900 at the time) was paying $27,000 for the world-wide trip on that ship. It’s 16 Storey’s high!

This was Taylor Square, one week before the Mardi Gras parade. This is still the first trip obviously. Pretty sure those banners are always there as it is a gay street pretty much.

Okay now we’re onto the second trip (I didn’t get to take many photos on the first trip on account of having to fly back to Queensland to say goodbye to my grandma) This is what they called "Glamstand" – tickets to sit on these seats were over $100, wheras you could just watch the parade for free. But with the amount of people who attend the mardi gras parade, it’s not surprising to see all these seats sold. It’s crazy. I’m glad I’m tall cos there’s no way I’d pay for that crap. Although proceeds from the seats did go to the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation (the first man diagnosed with the AIDS virus).

The theme this year was ‘Nations United"

This photo seems to be getting a reaction from my sister on facebook which I’m quite enjoying lol. Yeah, I’m not sure what they are meant to be, except for Xena, but hey they look cool.

I HAD to get a photo of these two. Classic! Because of course there were the wanker religious people who decided to turn up at the parade with their signs and shit. I mean seriously, come on, fuck off already. Go masturbate to your bibles. These guys rocked, especially when they started making out in front of the protesters haha!

One of the many floats. I was lucky to get these pictures as I went to get food from the city and walked back via where the trucks were being lined up and stuff. Plus later on in the night it got dark and my cameras not so great then 🙂

I’ll give Pump water a mention – one of the many sponsors of Mardi Gras. They were handing out thousands of bottles of free-water (Flavoured and natural) to everyone – the trucks drove along whilst guys in the back just threw the bottles into the crowd. They musta gone through hundreds of boxes of water hey.

So I assume the comedy channel was broadcasting this as well as Main Event.

Bit blurry but you can make it out – pretty sure it was zoomed in cos they were in a highrise. It’s amazing how many chicks did get their tits out during the parade hey, especially when the foxtel cameras were on them. Easiest way to get on TV = flop em out lol

This is Pam Ann. Those of you who don’t know who she is, SHAME ON YOU. Nah kidding, she’s one of Australia’s coolest comedians I reckon. She was hosting the Mardi Gras for it’s broadcast on Foxtel.

Almost got stampeded hey tryna get through this crowd! Cos everyone was all excited and trying to get themselves on tv, jumping up and also tryna fit through this gap that was clearly not big enough. Scary!

I dunno why she is feeling his tits, cos I’m pretty sure hers are the real ones!

This is the only shot I got from the afterparty. It was unbelievable! Basically the round thing is a huge mirrorball and the lights on it resembled countries around the world.
