So much fraud
This bloke rang up today, saying that his brother had run out of fuel and rang him to ask him if he could pay for the fuel, so he gave me his credit card details over the phone. I wrote them down and asked his brother’s name, which was Nick. The brother arrived probably 5 or so minutes later, got his fuel and also got cigarettes and a mobile phone. It was prepaid so i asked how much fuel he needed, which was $50. Total came to $180. It went through fine.
It wasn’t til later that the lady after me arrived and that guy rang up again asking if he could get two more mobile phones, but I didn’t really understand what he was on about, something about refunding one of them for cash. Yes, cue stupid gullible me, not even clicking onto all the signs. This bloke re-appeared shortly after and the lady after me said that she wouldn’t do it because it sounds dodgy as. The card had worked last time, but this time when I went to put the sale through of the two extra phones, the card declined.
So, me doing the nice thing for someone who I thought was stuck, pretty much has all the signs of fraud. Especially after the card declined the second time, which makes me think they used it somewhere else and the card wasn’t cancelled between the first transaction at my store and the second. The lady after me reckons she’ll contact the police at some point today. The guy is on camera and we know what vehicle he is driving, which is a rather nice vehicle, and he is using the name ‘Nick Munro’, which is pretty lame when i think about it because it sounds so much like Mike Munroe lol.
So anyway, I’m hoping I don’t get in trouble for this. I mean it’s not like it was theft, like those other bitches I’m still chasing up. We still got the money but i feel bad that it was probably at some other bastards expense. My message to you if you are reading this is please put a PIN on all your credit cards and don’t use a signature – if your card is stolen it’s way too easy to use either over the internet, or by doing a stunt like these two have. I won’t be taking down credit card details over the phone anymore – who knows if it’s actually theirs!?
When I got to work, my manager had written on the drive-off forms for details of the vehicle and the offenders. MY GOD what ELSE does she expect me to do? Not only did I copy down driver’s licences (including addresses and whatever fake phone numbers these bitches provided when they made up their sob story), registrations of the vehicles, AND the fact they are both on the security camera, she wants what sort of vehicle they were driving. I can’t fucking remember that! Why does that even matter? All I know is they were small sedans, one maybe blue or silver and the other one white. The brand and make I’d have no idea. I can’t tell my cars that well – I’m no god-damn straight guy who knows everything about cars – sorry. And that time of night, unless its something obvious, or my car I drive, I wouldn’t have a clue what it is. Apparently the registration on the car isn’t good enough because so many people go to the trouble os using fake number plates these days. And what, does that mean they are using plastic surgery as well? They are ON the camera. So last night was spent out the back going through the security footage to the times where the two seperate offenders (both women) were in and writing down the exact time they were in for the manager to look at, as she clearly couldn’t find it herself. So the only detail missing is what sort of car both women were driving – how is that gunna help any when they are on CAMERA in the FLESH? Geezz.
FFS DO THE RIGHT THING ARSEHOLES!!
It never ceases to amaze me the lengths of which people will go to to commit fraud. Really, it would be just as easy and far less illegal for folk just to GET A JOB. Sorry you had to deal with the crap. Hope it gets better.

These guys were actually pretty smart in the way they went about this. I don’t know if the laws in your country are the same as here in the states but if you sign the credit card receipt or put in a pin number it’s considered a felony. The fact that the guy called in the info and had someone else get the goods would make it hard to prosecute as anything more than a misdemeanor, if even that. Sorry they took advantage of you like this. It sucks that we all have to be so suspicious and someone who is really in need will eventually end up getting hurt because you just can’t trust anyone.

You wouldn’t get in trouble for that and the bank fraud teams are pretty quick to get onto these things, cancel cards and recover funds. I wouldn’t be too worried, just vigilant I guess. xxx

That’s terrifying.

I hate to be a cynic about this, but credit card companies actually have an allotment for fraud. It’s happened to me before–someone using my credit card that wasn’t me. They refunded my balance, but it was not without a struggle, believe me. The $#*! that happened wasn’t your fault. In fact, I’d say it sounds like you did everything you could. So quit beating yourself up, mister!

What’s the deal with drive offs these days? Just report what can be reported. For the first six months or so with mobil, they used to take the drive off amount out of our pay. We all kicked up, naturally. We were there by ourselves with no cameras. God I hated that place lol Xxx ~

Some people can get pretty desperate to get away with shit like that. The worst was a trick this feral derro of a woman played on me when I worked at Coles. She wanted to break $100 so I opened my till and gave her something she requested, like a $50, a couple of $20’s etc. She would then pull out more cash and ask me to break it, and after a couple of swaps she ended up robbing me of an extra $50. I felt like such a dumb twat.

It’s sad you can’t be nice and to something for others b/c it will come to bite you back in the ass..

Lots of crime lately in your area… geeze, you always have to be suspicious of everyone and not give anyone the benefit of the doubt at your workplace.. I think you’ll be okay definitely because you didn’t do anything on purpose you just did what the customer wanted done is all. If you do get in trouble that would be the most BS ever cause you weren’t in on anything and didn’t know those guys

woah, that is quite scary x
