RIP Lucas
Wow did I get a shock and a half this morning when I clicked on my inbox in Facebook! There was a message from my mum, and I knew without even finishing reading the first line that someone had died. Lucas his name was.
Funny thing is (not that there’s anything funny about death) I don’t believe I ever met the guy, or maybe I did briefly. I’m pretty sure the only time I met him was when he was leader of the Lutheran Youth Committee or whatever it was called, and he did speeches at the annual Synods, which I used to go to along with my dad, back in my more-religious days. I’m pretty sure I remember dad talking to him once and I was there, standing awkwardly. This was WELL before I knew he was gay. I only found that out about two years ago and THAT floored me, let alone hearing that he has passed on from the world this morning.
Lucas is the main reason my parents and his parents came together more as friends. They had an openly gay son, I’m an openly gay son to my parents. I remember mum telling me that she and dad went to dinner at the Von-Hoff’s residence. I have no idea what they spoke about other than ‘Okay our sons are both gay and we’re both bible bashers, what do we do about it?’. So, I have Lucas to thank for not leaving me as the only gay Lutheran. The last time I chatted to Lucas actually was on facebook chat when I saw he was online, and although I’d never spoken to him, I had to ask him – "Did you know our parents have dinner at each other’s houses talking about us?" He had no idea and found it as hilarious as I did. Lucas lived in London the last few years of his life. He worked as a teacher over there I believe, and seemed to love every single second of it. He was definitely one of those ‘life-is-great’ sorta guys. I could tell that without even hanging out with the guy – he just eluded the energy. is that the word? So yes, I’m in complete shock still. Did not expect to get home from work and read about this.
Apparently he had been out with his friends the night before and was meant to meet them for lunch, but he never showed up. He had said he wasn’t feeling too good the previous night. His friends got the manager to open the door and they found him unconscious and unable to revive him.
That is so scary. He was a HEALTHY bloke too. Like real healthy – you’ll see in the pictures – I’ll put some up here. He was a beautiful guy and I really wish I got to meet him more in this life, but our paths just never really crossed I suppose. I wouldn’t say we were mates, but he was the kind of guy who seemed to be a mate to anyone and everyone, and I feel like he was one.
Rest in peace, wherever you are.
Check out how BUFF he was! Can you believe this was the Youth leader of my church? Well for a few years anyway, then he quit lol
I assume he probably got basically driven out like I did.
One of my favourite photos of him I have to say
What a handsome guy hey
This is a photo of him four years ago, probably when he was around my age. I think he’s a few years older than me.
He’s such an inspiration to me. I only wish I knew his story, his true story, and I wonder how it compares to mine.
Farewell, or until later. Our religion taught us to believe this is only a new beginning, so, who knows. xo
Oh my god, what a shock. He looked so healthy and vibrant and gorgeous. How could he just die like that? Tragic. I hope this is a lesson to your parents, to stop wasting time wishing you weren’t gay and to simply love you as you are. We’re not here forever.

damn he’s sexay! But that is what is so scary about death. The heathliest person can be gone in a flash. Maybe it was an anurysm or something? Undetected heart condition? These things can just happen to anyone. So sad and so scary.

Shit do they know what happened? Like, cause of death? I presume he wasn’t on drugs or you would have said so. I hope the shock doesn’t impact too negatively on you.

Saw this on fb and…I’m still sorry to hear this. The world has truly, truly lost a beautiful soul–inside and out.

How sad! I’m a Lutheran too. I’m not gay, however I did had a child out of wedlock, which is a huge no-no in my church (as you probably know). So I kind of know how you feel, to an extent.

He was quite a good looking guy, that’s for sure, and looked very healthy. Did you find out what he died from?
