Never know

What is with me and foreign guys?  Cute foreign guys?  Eventually the same thing happens – they all have to leave the country cos of Australia’s tough immigration laws.  So far there’s been Martin (back in Ireland), Kirk (back in Scotland) Michael (back in New Zealand – from last week), Hayden (the guy from work who asked me on a date – will have to go back to New Zealand unless he can find another job within a month), Rayn (from Singapore and still in Australia but struggling to stay here) and now my friend Vish is going back to India because it’s too expensive to stay here as an international student!  I’m hanging out with him in a few hours.  It’s always really nice of him to come into the city on the train.  He’s bringing a friend today apparently.  I’m gunna miss that little fucker when he goes.

I’ve been good.  Two shifts to go.  I’m always on the countdown for my shifts because they change every single week.  That’s how I know how close my days off are away and when I go actually do shit 🙂

This customer came in last night, usual transaction, he bought things blah blah and he asked if I worked full time.  I said ‘No casual, four shifts a week’ and he asked if i was doing uni.  I hate this question.  I scoffed, ‘Yeah if I could get INto uni’ and he went on to tell me about courses he’s studied and that he’s faculty at Bond University on the Gold Coast and he asked me what I was interested in doing and I told him and he told me that he’d studied Criminology and Law and loved it and that he did Psych but absolutely hated it and that his wife is doing her FOURTH degree.  He reckons he can pull some strings and get me into a course at Bond.

I’m a little worried about this, just because I’ve always had the impression that Bond university is a rich-kids uni (A uni that parents basically pay for so that their kids can have a degree) – I kinda see it as Australia’s version of Harvard haha.  I could be waaaay off, but every single person I know who has gone there comes from a rich family.  I’m near sure I wouldn’t be able to afford the courses because I wouldn’t be able to apply for any government loans because it’s a private university.

This customer seemed pretty legit and had the lanyard and the ID to prove he was faculty of staff there, and he also claims to have helped out in Cyclone Larry and the recent floods – he reckons he’s a real people person and has always helped out the less fortunate.  He stunned when he said that he only learnt to read and write at the age of 44, and he is now 48.  He reckons in his younger days he was in the army and they just taught him everything he needed to know including how to fly aircraft!  He definitely had a good story going on.  I actually found myself droning off but told myself to keep interested haha – it happens in the early hours of the morning, sometimes just aren’t as alert.  So yeah bascially he took down my number and said that he’d bring in some booklets for me to have a browse through and see what I think.  Okay, why not?  He also said I should come along to the next Open Day, which is happening there sometime soon.  Wow, even if I do that I might get a glimpse at this prestige higher education facility.  He asked how old I was and i said ’27’ and then asked what schooling I’d completed and I said ‘Year 12’ and then he non-challantly said ‘Yeah, you’ll get in easy, and there’s heaps of financial things they can do for people 28 and under as well such as help moving to the gold coast if needed,.’  He even offered his own ute, motioning to his vehicle parked outside.  It sounded all pretty legit.  Of course it went over in my head, ‘Yeah this guy is faculty, of course he’s going to want more funds coming into the uni’ but I guess I can look at the forms.  He even suggested a few courses that are popular with some of the students at the moment, including a ‘gaming’ course.  That could be fun I suppose – lot of work but I don’t really see games dying out in the near future, especially in this new-age era of Apps being everywhere.  I wonder what my prerequisites would be.  I’m sure when I’ve looked into Bond in the past that it’s been an interview process to get in.  This guy said it’s a lot easier to get into Bond because you don’t have to go through all the QTAC bullshit (who have taken my application money but yet to offer me a place in ANY uni in the past).  I dunno, I’m definitely skeptical.  I’m not rich.  I can’t afford the course.  If there was some system similar to a ‘Do now, pay later’ system, then I’d definitely be all up for it.  But there’s no point if they want $50,000 upfront.

And we all know how much I’ve wanted to live on the coast the past few years.  My older brother even lives there now!  I doubt I’d work in a servo down there though – waaaaay too many armed robberies going on.  I suppose it would be drug-fuelled, being the Gold Coast and all.  I assume it has it’s own Underbelly going on.  I’d just have to see how this goes – when I have info on how the fee-structure works, I may be able to fake a suit and tie from Vinnies and pull a complete Elle Woods impersonation with an entrance essay video to boot, to impress them at the interview.

You want to study? I wouldn’t have guessed that. You’re too pretty to study. Find yourself a rich husband and retire at 29 to a gorgeous apartment overlooking the ocean. All you will have to do it put out and spend his money.

GO TO SCHOOL!!

Did you end up doing the STAT test? I always thought Bond was a rich kid uni because you couldn’t go if you needed HECS, but I’m pretty sure they’ve changed that now. I wouldn’t have likened it to Harvard though! Haha. I reckon milk this guy for all he’s worth! xx

Whatever you do, do NOT do gaming!! Unless you’re planning to move to Japan or the US there is pretty much no work in this country. It’s about as useless as a plain arts degree or a film degree. If you don’t believe me, do a Seek search. If you really want to study you should pick something that has good post-grad career prospects that wont bore you to death 🙂 xxx
