I can’t believe I just did this!…

I’ve got that giddy excited feeling right about now.

I just booked a week-long trip to Tasmania.  Yup.

I’ve never been there before.  I leave next Tuesday, stay in Hobart for 2 nights in a what-seems-like-rather-nice hotel, then on the third day I go back to Hobart Airport to pick up a hire car – A HIRE CAR!  I’ve never hired a car before, I am nervous and excited because it’s been so long since I’ve driven one properly, although I don’t think I can forget – I took our insurance and made sure it had unlimted kilometers and everything and have hired the car from May 3rd until May 8th.  On May 8th, I return to car to Launceston!  OMFG I can’t believe I’m doing this and have no idea if I’m even doing it right!  I then have a flight from Launceston back to Brisbane.  All within a week, or rather 8 days.

May 2nd – Fly Virgin to Sydney, Fly Sydney to Hobart, Stay in hotel and check out Hobart for 2 days, get hire car for 5 days and stay in random hotels with vacancies along the way (this is the scary part because I really have no idea if I’ll be able to get anywhere and don’t really know the towns in between haha but I’m taking a huuuge chance that I’ll be okay.  I mean, I’ve slept in my old car heaps of times despite in being illegal but meh if ya don’t have a choice :P, so the plan is to drive around and see as much of the Tasmanian countryside as I can πŸ™‚  I’m pretty excited!  I’m actually wondering if I can drive around Tasmania in the time I have the vehicle, or if not on the way up to Launceston to decide on which side of the state to drive up.  I’m sure I’ll work it all out when I’m in the hotel in Hobart. Then fly back from Launceston to Melbourne, hang around Melbourne for about three hours, then fly back to Brisbane!  I found it crazy that there’s no direct flights between QLD and TAS, but I figured that Melb and Syd are the main ports and by stopping in them, they can get more people on the flights, and that’s what it’s about right?  Money?

So my only real expenses will be the fuel for the car and the trip all up will probably set me back nearly around the grand mark?  I dunno, that’s just a guess with two flights, two hotel nights (so far) and car hire which was $370 with the extra insurance, which i didn’t think was too bad at all!  I’m guessing towns in between Hobart and Launceston may cost around the $80-$90 a night mark?  (If I’m going on Queensland general country-town prices).  Knowing what I’m like, I’d prob try to stay in backpackers or hitch a night in the vehicle to save myself a pretty penny haha.  So fuel for the car and extra accomodation are the only expenses yet to think about, plus all the food I’m sure to scoff down whilst there.

I mean, I’ve always wanted to see Tasmania and I figure what a way to do it.  It’s 6:20am in the morning and I’ve been up ALLLL night – haven’t slept a wink.  I’m meant to have a photoshoot today but will look like dog-shit in it LOL as I’ve had no sleep, just cos I’ve been so excited, and it’s stupid cos I was so tired at 8pm last night and was just gunna hit the hay to be refreshed for today, but alas, no – spontaneous Matt decided, ‘HEY MATT, BOOK A RANDOM TRIP TO AN ISLAND OFF THE MAINLAND!  YEAH BOY!  GO FOR IT!!’ LOL

I can’t believe I’m doing this.  I’ll more than likely be sensible and plan a route and see where accomodation is before I go next week.

I’ve worked hard before quitting, and I’ll feel like I deserve this.  I’m only really away for a week, but for me, any trip like this feels like a trip of a lifetime, even though I’ve yet to go overseas πŸ™‚

TAKE. ME.

Hi, I’m a new noter! (but not a new diarist). I found your diary from clicking on the ‘random’ button here! You are not that far away from me, my BF is in Brisbane and I’m on the Sunny Coast. I go to Bris a fair bit to see him πŸ™‚ I like your idea of the spur of the moment trip to Tassie. I was there in 2007 and loved it. You are going to have a great time πŸ™‚
