Excited for Tassie!

In preparation of my trip tomorrow (flight is in 12 hours yay!), I can’t think of a better theme song for my trip 😀  I get that it’s not very good for a gay guy to post this, but, it’s hilarious and I love it 😀

Ahhh, I will be in Hobart tomorrow afternoon and I’m spending two days there.  I’ve already explained it all.  I have my accomodation there but as for the rest of it, I’m going to wing it.  Risky I know, but it’s all part of the excitement, and I really have no idea where I’ll be anyway!
I have one of those really massive fold-out maps of Tasmania and looking at the scale, it doesn’t look like it would take very long at all to drive from one side of the state to the other haha, so even though I was looking at accommodation, that limits me to be in a certain place at a certain time, I’ve decided I’d rather be spontaneous and keep an eye out for ‘Vacancy" sign as I’m driving along as the sun goes down 🙂  That way, I can explore as much as possible.

I’m quite lucky that at this time of year, the sun is up between 7am and 5pm – perfect times!  In other times of the year, the sun isn’t up very long at all, because it is so far south.  I can’t wait to just experience the atmosphere, and I’ve been told that the air is some of the freshest in the world.

Immediate ideas that I’d like to check out (from an outside view) whilst driving are the thermal springs in the south, Port Arthur in the south east and the Cadbury chocolate factory in the north 😀  I’m assuming the hotel will have pamplets for other ideas and touristy areas.

I haven’t had much sleep at all.  About 3 hours in the last two days.  I was just up late last night for no reason at all really, and then my mate Jon convinced me to come out drinking with him, although I only had one because I told him I wasn’t drinking, because I have been hungover on a flight once in the past, and I told myself NEVER AGAIN!  Worst.feeling.ever!
Maybe I’m just a wuss.  All my mates act like they do it all the time.  I’m sorry but I like to feel healthy and not like shit thanks!

I’ve already checked in and chose the same seat on both flights there – on the way there I stop over in Sydney.  I chose a seat to get a view out of the window.  I can’t wait to see the Bass Strait from the sky and hopefully see Flinders Island as the plane descends.  That’s what I’m hoping anyway.  I’ll be excited before the plane even lands 🙂 🙂

There was a segment on TV this morning about flying on planes, and they reckon that when you fly, you should try to always get seat 6A.  Frequent flyers will tell you that is the best seat to get on the plane.  Apparently the worst seat you can sit in is 31E.

Unfortunately I couldn’t get seat 6A – clearly somebody else saw that TV show also, but I’ll try on the way back.

How exciting!  I’m only taking carry-on luggage haha.  I can’t wait to smell the (probably freezing cold) air when I get off the plane onto the Tarmac.  The things I do.

I should probably start packing.  I’ll be too excited to sleep, i just know it.

Wow, what am I gunna be like when I go overseas if I’m this excited going to the island state?

I made a lame graph to show my trip there hahaha god so lame.  Oh well.  I am currently in the blue circle.  The green line is approximately the route (although it’ll probably fly via the coast) and, as you can see, I’ve circled my destination for the next 8 days 🙂 🙂

It still stuns me that the whole South-west of the state is inhabitable!  It is all protected, and I used to donate to The Wilderness Society back in the Naughties.  Lake Gordon and Lake Pedder were man-made lakes to produce hydro-electricty back in the day, but failed and never eventuated.  I am going to be driving gradually up the east coast, as I’ve been told that if I cross through the middle to the north-west, sometimes the road can be cut off from snow etc, although I think it’s not quite cold enough in the year for that yet.  I do know that tomorrow night and Wednesday night, the overnight lows are 1 degree and 0 degrees haha, but on Thursday the overnight low will be 9 degrees celcius.  I think I’ll buy warm clothes when I get there cos I don’t think the clothes I have will be warm enough 🙂

Have lots of fun and take pictures!

Australia is around the same size as all of Europe! 😮 The distance between England and France is about the same as me flying from Sydney to Melbourne! Another reason to get your hot arse over here! I need a travel buddy to explore Europe with (including Gay Paree hahaha) xxx

That looks terrifying.

You know if you go to Google Maps, you can get estimated driving times from Point A and B, and add in destinations between the 2… to get an idea of how long it will take. Just add the amount of time you want to take at each stop, and you’ll have an idea. Safe travels! Look forward to hearing all about it.

Shit I forgot how fucken far away Perth is from you guys but yeah. Anyway wow look at you mister free spirit! Ryn: really now? Wanna see more of it? >:)

I’m looking forward to your entries while you are in Tasmania. I’m assuming you can be connected to the internet some way or other. Maybe at night when you are in lodgings of some kind. So remember to give us guys, who have to stay at home, a daily report. LOL

Enjoy your trip!!!! And as always, be safe Matt.

Haha that song was classic! I started watching it at my desk at work and had to pull the plug, whoops! If you are going to the south-west of Tassie, try to go on the cruise that leaves from the town of Strahan and heads down the river through the Huon pines and temperate rain forests. I went on some cruise there years ago and there was wine and cheese provided! We also got to see the remote penal settlement there on the river. Amazing! Port Arthur I can highly recommend, as well as the Cadbury factory in Hobart. Pack warm, I remember freezing my ass of in Hobart on the 27th December!

http://www.worldheritagecruises.com.au/index.php?page=the-cruises This is a must do cruise if you happen to be in the south east Tassie area!

This is so exciting, you need your main touristy things you want to see and work around that. I loved backpacking through Asia and just turning up and finding somewhere to stay, I look forward to your entries. I had a flight from London to Sydney hung over once and never ever again, you are not a wuss, whether it is an hour or 10 hour flight I would never do it again! Enjoy 🙂
