Dad’s emails

FYI – Fuck OD’s formatting 🙂

Just avoid this entry if you please, I prefer my readers to read the positive fun attitributes of my life, not the crap like this that goes on. But however I feel I must document it.

My dad sent me an EMAIL in reply to the status I put up – the one where I was outting his bullshit to the public. I’m still overwhelmed at the support I got from that status, including readers here who obvious know the story moreso than those who just hit ‘like’ every 10th or so status and call themselves my ‘friend’. So yes, an email, and lets just make it clear that email is one person to one person privately, in CLASSIC dad style… the brackets and asterix are me marking it like a teacher 😛

Although it was sent a while ago now, I only just replied to it last night. I remember when I first read it, it was before work one
night and I refused to let it get to me, and I didn’t – I literally laughed out loud when he said that he thinks "I feel guilty," LOL

Anyway, here’s my reply to him, in email form. I was glad the status got to him. I KNEW he’d read it.

RE: You eating prawns (shrimp) is a sin, if you’re going to select individual verses from the bible and throw them at me. Im not embarrassed at ALL. The status was to make you feel as SHIT as you’ve tried to make me feel over the years. Nor do i feel guilty. You’re right, the father does know best. I also know he wouldn’t have made millions of people around the world feel all different ways about each other if he didn’t want us to live our lives. God is love, not some homophobic religious point of view which is all this is. Australia will have some form of gay marriage one day, but it’s the religious groups that prevent hundreds of thousands of people just wanting equality. Even if marriage was left as it is and we were granted civil-unions instead, you would still complain. And that saddens me. I can’t change your opinion, so just let me be happy by leaving mine alone.

So who knows if that will generate another reply, or an influx of flyers and dvd’s in my mailbox again, which WILL directly be
thrown INTO the recycling bin 🙂 Glad I can do my part to help the world.

It’s sad that your own father can’t look past his own prejudice and love his son for who he is and not what the bible says he should be.

I’m in the same boat.. minus the gay thing lol I just can’t do any right in my Mothers eyes no matter how hard & well I do in life. Why they can’t just be happy we are alive and well.. and just love us for who we are?

I think he’s casually glossing over a lot of things in the bible about unconditional love and Jesus fcking a prostitute and slavery being totally fine for starters. The Birdman 2.0

It’s been a while since I studied the Bible, yes at some point in my life I did, pardon the pun, religiously. And I recall words being thrown about in that mix of parables outlining compassion, acceptance, understanding, forgiveness and avoiding judgments, criticisms, alienation and persecution. Ok, I didn’t give you chapter and verse…but I think you get my point. There’s also one more…cont

It’s amazing to see that the bible in all its words is used today in ways contrary to the original teachings of the person it’s mostly written about by the very people that purport to have its best intentions at heart. There’s more…but I’ll stop there. 🙂 –

I am so sorry that your father is being this way. It’s really sad that a man can’t get over his own prejudice and just love his own child. My daughter is bisexual, well I think she’s actually gay but curious either way. (She’s dated both). I don’t really care who she wants to be with, as long as she’s happy and the person she ends up with treats her with respect and love. Why would it make a difference to me? She’s my child, not my spouse. The grandchildren issue is just stupid because who says you’d want children if you weren’t gay? Plenty of gay people have children and plenty of straight people don’t. Your Dad needs to get his head out of his butt and stop misinterpreting God’s word. HE loves us all, regardless.

That is the most powerful thing I’ve known you to say to your dad. I am sorry his close mindedness makes him incapable of loving you like you deserve to be loved by family. We all love you matt. You know who you are. We all know where you’re going too. You’re an amazing, kind, honest person. You don’t need saving/changing or any of that rot.
