Cute possum
I was starving last night after finishing work and hanging out with my friend Pete and his friends (whom I didn’t know) at the Pancake Manor. They’d already eaten, so i didn’t wanna feel stupid by ordering something by myself. Anyway, so I stopped off at *gasp* Maccas. I asked the chick if I could get a wrap, even though I knew they stopped making them after a certain time, but she was nice and said she’d make one for me.
I stopped and sat in the park on my way home, as it’s well lit and quite nice on a balmy night. I’d just finished my wrap and had the bag on the seat next to me, when I heard a noise. I turned and it was a baby possum. It was soooo cute. It made it’s way over to me, curious as to what was in the bag. It got so close at one point, that it jumped up on the seat I was on and dove headfirst into the bag from the seat ledge. It was hilarious! I was amazed at how this little fella didn’t have a care in the world.
So cute! I met a few kept as pets here in the US about 20 years ago, but have not seen them since, except when I visited down there. I think they’re perfectly charming.

We kill them in America. Evil little things.

Park possums aren’t shy at all. I was in the park in Bendigo one night and had a possum chase me for 20 minutes after I’d given it a sip of my apple juice. It wanted more. Cheeky buggers!

I came back to look again. 🙂 We do not all kill them in the US–and they’re different animals, of the same name. I worked with a bunch of them at a wildlife rescue–delightful, friendly little guys, and the babies all want to be snuggled and petted like kittens. Very soft, too. A lot of people don’t like them because they’re not as cute, and they show their teeth…but once you get to know one, it’s tough not to like them.
