BQFF -“Notre Paradis” ( “Our Paradise”)

I just saw my first film at this year’s Brisbane Queer Film Festival.  I originally was going to see a whopping nine films, but after seeing a few trailers, I’ve cut it down to 4.
If the rest of the films are anything like this first film I just saw, then I am in for a treat of a year.

"Notre Paradis" ("Our Paradise") is a French film, but was thankfully subtitled for us in the movie theatre at the Brisbane Powerhouse, where the event is held every year.  I think this is about the 4th or 5th time I’ve attended it, I really can’t remember.  Unfortunately I can’t seem to find a trailer that has english subtitles, so unless you know French, you probably won’t know what’s going on in the trailer.

But what a film!  I was amazed by it and left the theatre with that excited feeling I sometimes get after having seen a brilliant film.  I understand my tastes are usually nowhere near other’s tastes in movies, but who cares when I really enjoyed it, right?  I mean, I am the guy who adored seeing "The Lorax" on Wednesday night 😀

"Our Paradise" was just such a full-on film.  Pretty much the only way I can describe it.  I don’t believe I had even seen the trailer (one I must’ve missed) so didn’t really know what I was in for, other than what I’d read about it in the guide.  The guy who played the role of the twink in the film was absolutely beautiful.  Cast brilliantly for the role!  Such good eye-candy, well for me anyway.  And the plot involved love and murder and deception and aging and Ahhh, just really really enjoyed it.  I have vowed to myself that I must track down a subtitled version of the DVD, but I guess English should be in the options on the menu anyway right?  I’m not even sure it’s out yet.

There are three more films I am seeing – tomorrow and then two next Friday.  I timed the films I want to see a bit better this year, as last year I had to wait like hours between films and it was just a little frustrating with not quite enough time to go home without risking missing the film.

I had a nap this afternoon.  I was just tired for some reason, and I only just woke up in time to catch a cab to see the film, but I am SO glad I didn’t miss that movie =)

That looks so interesting! (Luckily, I know enough French that I can get the gist of the film) I actually watched this documentary about slavery in Africa, and the slaves spoke French, and I understood them completely!! HAY HAY, girl! Look who’s speaking multiple languages n shit!!
