Aqua..rocked…my…world! (pics) (vid)
I rang my work yesterday and Heather answered. She’s the lovely invoice office lady who is leaving shortly 🙁 It was so good to talk to her because I never get to see her on account of us working at opposite times of the day, but it was good to chat to her for a while. Eventually I got her to put me through to the new store manager. This happy, chirpy voice answered, "Hello, Michelle speaking!"
I pretty much pleaded, ‘Is there any possible way that I can start work later tonight? Like at midnight?’
I braced to be slammed, ‘Like hell there is, get in here bitch’, but it wasn’t like that at all. She calmly asked who was on before me and I told her, and she said to just ask him if he’d wanna stay back, and gave me his number over the phone. I had to put my phone on speaker while I jotted it down, even though I’m pretty sure I have his number in my phone contacts somewhere. I thanked her and hung up, and rang my workmate.
Phew, here goes. I rang him, and the conversation almost seemed strained, as though I had awoken him or something. He asked if he could call me back after 5pm, as he’d know then if he had to pick his daughter up from work or not.
It wasn’t long after that, that I received a call back from him, well before 5pm. He said, "Yep, that’s cool, I’ll work until midnight for you."
It was SUCH a relief!! I basically worshiped and thanked him so much down the phone line haha. Anyone would think I’d just won the jackpot 😛
YAY! I was going to Aqua!!
Wouldn’t you believe, I couldn’t find ANYONE who wanted my spare ticket? I asked four different friends and even posted an open invitation on facebook about who might want to come with me. I’d seen previous posts of people asking for $100 for their spare ticket, as the concert was a sold out event, and here I was, offering mine completely FREE (that’s what I do), and no-one seemed to want it.
So that lead into a bout of depression. "Great, no-one can stand to spend like an hour hanging out with me, and it’s not like they even have to once they are inside!" I felt like shit. Maybe people feel bad about accepting freebies. I don’t get it. it just made me feel pretty worthless. I saw a tear fall onto my bed-sheet, dampening a spot.
Eventually I told myself to get over it and that it was their loss. I was going to this concert and everyone else can get fucked. That’s just how I felt. You offer a good deed and get shut down and it happens all too often in my life. One friend on facebook thought I meant that I was offering my company on the walk TO the concert as the freebie, and not the actual ticket. I was insulted and actually had to spell out what I meant – it’s easier to show the status.
So my friend Scott was adorable though, feeling bad for me. He woulda gone but was stuck up north, and even wanted to send his boyfriend to accompany me, but by this stage I was pissed off with everyone and I don’t really know his boyfriend all that well. I wanted to give my ticket to someone who mattered to me, you know? Like an actual friend who might like to come along, but alas. I appreciate him caring though but by doing it that way I just felt I was being taken advantage of. I wanted to give the ticket to my friend, not a friend’s boyfriend who simply wanted to score a freebie. I can justify my thoughts myself, if that doesn’t make sense.
There’s more to that status below the screenshot where I was like ‘I’m sure me and the bin outside will have an awesome time’ lol where I went all emo-like, and the guy who I met at Mardi Gras last week simply wasn’t quick enough to see the status. Had I let people know earlier I had a spare ticket, then I’m sure I probably would have given it away a lot more easily. I’m weird like that and it always comes back to bite me in the arse. I had a spare ticket to Taylor Swift as well that no-one wanted and I went to that alone.
I did the same with Aqua.
But boy am I so glad that I went! I can simply say that was the best live concert I have ever attended, and I’ve seen quite a few artists live now. I think it was the smaller venue that was completely sold out, the fact I ran into my gorgeous friend Chris in the line outside (from the status) and finding out that HE TOO had a spare ticket that a friend has pulled out on! I wasn’t alone! I teased him about having an American accent because he’d been away for so long 🙂 It was so good to see him! I got to the front of the line and realised they needed to see ID, which I hadn’t brought with me. Damned licenced venues! I was 28 for fucks sake! I turned 18 over a decade ago! Yet, he still needed to see it. So I told Chris I’d duck home and get it. Took forever to flag a cab. Just like on the way there – I even rang for one – none turned up and I rang again and got angry with the lady on the other end who told me the cab had been dispatched – I was like ‘If it had been dispatched it would fucking BE here!’ – lol. Poor lady – she was nice though and said she’d send another. Shortly after a cab pulled up, which was probably the first one that just took forever, but oh well 😛
So yeah, eventually flagged a cab back and he was nice and waited while I ducked inside. The good news was by the time I got back, there was no massive queue and I walked straight in. I’d lost Chris though 🙁 but I ran into some other friends, Gary and Gio who were there, so I hung out with them. I’m quite tall so I stuck to the wall the whole night, and I wouldn’t be in people’s way. I was right next to a light though that I could feel was quite warm. It was so warm in there!
I saw Chris motion to me that he was heading closer – he texted me to make sure I wasn’t alone, which was SO nice of him. I asked the same and he said he’d run into some clubbing friends. Of course he had haha. So yeah, I found it kinda cool that he not only had a spare ticket as well, but was also starting work at midnight like I was.
The concert was unreal, like I mentioned. They rocked that place hard and knew how to work the crowd. Lene had her voice back also, as I heard at the previous night’s show she had a sore throat and there were also 500 less people. I was at the sold out show. I took a few pics, but I was a fair way abck and can’t zoom on my phone, although they turned out okay. I took a bad quality video of "Barbie Girl’ haha, watch it if you want.

They sang all their biggest hits and it was complete nostalgia for me. The first CD I ever bought was their "Aquarium" album, and they played every hit as well as new ones from the new album, which is amazing and completely gay as all hell FYI.
They finished up around 11:30pm, which was perfect timing. I left after ‘back to the 80’s" to beat the crowd. I loved that Rene’ had a camcorder filming the crowd for a while while he sang away into the mike. I waved like crazy from a way back trying to see if I could make it into their vlog or whatever they do with it, but I doubt it haha.
I had the best time and got to work on time. So good having a shorter 5 hour shift.
Here’s some random photos from the night. These aren’t that great, I’m sorry 🙂 I’m on a high still from it so I don’t care.
Ran into my friend Gio there, as I mentioned. Ergh it was so hot in there and I was trying to carrry everything in my cardi. That came off of course, it was just too hot. I turned up at work smelling like sweat but oh well haha. My workmate was nice and gave me some of his cologne.
it looks awesome!!! i’m glad you ended up going! 😀 did they play butterfly??
