Wet.
OK, so I keep questioning myself. Maybe it’s just me. Maybe the weather isn’t as bad as it feels like it’s been this year. But no, I have my proof. Though I believe Sara said that we broke some rain records anyway.
But for me? Well, OK first there is/was the fact that the puddle in our driveway which is usually only present for a couple days when the snow really melts in the spring? Well, it’s been there since the snow started melting…. A couple months? Ago… With maybe a couple days where it mostly disappeared.
More present and obvious to me now? The grass has been growing. For weeks now. It’s definitely obvious to me that it’s into the mowing stage. And all of the trees and plants and flowers are all blooming now. But we’ll be lucky to have any sun to enjoy them. Problem is that the lawn is more swamp at this point. It is in a constant state of Shlup, Shlup, Shlup if you walk through it and leave tracks. There is still standing water in various spots throughout the lawn and edges. This also has been there constantly for a month or two…
I’ve seen a few people who have mowed their lawns. I watched one roll his lawn as we drove past. You can see the wheels and roller all soaking wet and the mowed lawns have those big wet clumps all over with the tracks. We have a mulching mower so if I even tried to mow ours, besides the tracks, there are spots I would most definitely not make it up the uphill sections and the deck would be instantly filled with a mass of wet grass and the blades would break their pins.
So I’m hoping maybe sometime in June the rain will slow down to normal levels and the ground will start to dry out a bit and maybe the lawn mower will somehow be able to go through the grass which will be like 2 feet tall…
You know I almost thought that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but… We’re the better part of the way through the first week of May… If it completely STOPPED raining right now and didn’t rain at all any more… I’m thinking it would take at LEAST a week to even start drying out the ground… I’m thinking 2 weeks would be more realistic to get anywhere near solid ground… So, that’s pretty close to June… And the forecast is still pretty much for constant rain. Though technically it wasn’t raining when I came in this morning. But everything was still wet because it rained ALL day yesterday. And supposedly it might not rain Thursday…
It seems like a lot of the country (world) is having unusual weather. Tornadoes, constant rain, etc. All I can say is that I hope NY gets its act together soon, for your sake! Even I, from the PNW, am no longer used to cloudy-rainy-gross as a way of life. It’s Spring! It should be sunny.

I’m just glad we have a canoe 🙂

Andy has mowed the lawn twice already. I don’t think we’ve had more rain than usual, but we’ve had lots of dreary days. I don’t like it. ~

ryn: Yes! Totally. I’m not big on conspiracies either, but I also think there isn’t a whole lot our government wouldn’t do in certain situations… Lots of questions not answered and all the problems pinned on one guy. Sounds fishy to me.

Over the problem is shortage of rain. We’ve just had one of the hottest and warmest Aprils on record.
