Let’s deal. (Oh, and try this again…)

Now I see why I didn’t have any notes…  Apparently this entry didn’t go up…  Nicely enough it seems to have saved a draft…  I think it’s all here…

So I guess the biggest thing last week/end was the appliances.

At the start of the week I thought I was pretty well set on going with Lowes.  It was close and they would match all the prices and we could use a 10% coupon.  And the Maytag rebate we realized was not going to be valid for us.

Well, then like Tuesday as I thought we were settled Home Depot sends a card saying that they are still offering 12 months no payments no interested which no one else is doing anymore because of the new government regulations going into effect in a couple weeks.  I called Lowes to check and they would go from 6 months to 12 months, but still with Payments.  Sara prefers the no payments cause then she can use the money to generate interest throughout the year and pay it off before the interest comes due.  (which I’d say less than 1% of anyone else ever does which is why it was so popular and why it’s being outlawed since otherwise you end up having to pay all that interest at the end of the year).

So Wednesday night I drover the 35 minute driver over to Home Depot to confirm that they could do everything.  Yep.  Talked to a couple of "interesting" appliance people, and they didn’t think they could do the 10% coupon, but they’d ask the manager.  Well it was the hardware manager, but he said yes, absolutely.  He did pause for a second on the price matching as well, but he then confirmed yes they could do it.  Ok.  And they also said that we could stop in at 6am Friday to order the appliances.

It was also hard to guess how long this stuff would last.  Like no people Sara or I talked to had even heard of this state rebate thing.  But all the appliance people are talking that they think the 16 million might be gone in a matter of hours.

So, at 5:30am Friday morning we headed over, got there just after 6.  No one in the lot.  Phew, doesn’t look like it’s going to be a madhouse.

-No one in appliances.  Sara finds someone.  "Oh, we don’t sell appliances till like 7 or 8."  "Hang on, maybe there’s someone around".  Nice.

So we get the guy over and he starts to figure out how to do this since he hasn’t done it in a while.  Says they can’t do the 10% off coupon with the price matching.  *sigh*…  He calls the manager.  I explain how I drove over here Wednesday specfically to check that this is what I was going to bring in Friday and that there wouldn’t be a problem.  He really didn’t want to do it.  I told him it was the hardware manager, and luckily that guy was there and came over.  So there was the 5 of us with the manager trying to be nice, but definitely not wanting to give us that good of a deal.

In the end, the manager never actually said yes, but I guess that’s how it was left and we got the discount.  Once we finally had everything ordered, we headed across the street to a coffee shop and it was like 7:45.  At least an hour and a half there.  Very stressing.

So in the coffee shop I logged on to the NY site to reserve our $500 refund.  Made it through most of it, but then you were supposed to print out this form.  Well…  The site never generated the form for us…  But at least we had our reservation#.

So we shopped a bit at Wal-mart and then headed home.  It was stressful.  Cause that’s the time I normally get up for work and it was 10:30am and I was just wiped out.  I just laid on the bed or 20 minutes, and felt MUCH more awake thankfully.

I tried about 10 times throughout the day to call the NY# about the rebate but just got "All circuits are busy".

Thankfully on Saturday I got through and the guy said that the form was unavailable Friday and that they would be mailing it out.

OH!  And on Wed night I also noticed that prices had dropped a bit more and that Home Depot now had the $500 Maytag rebate available again!

So…  Yeah, we spent a crapload of money for appliances…  But…  I think the total if you just went into Lowes and said "I’d like these appliances" normally, the total for our 6 would be about $5500(without our 8% tax).

We walked out of there with about $4500(including tax) on a 12 month no payment no interest account.  Delivered free next Monday.

We should be getting $500 back from NY

We should be getting another $500 back from Maytag.

If we manage to sell our appliances for like at least another $200…

So…  If we were gonna do it, that was definitely the time.

Oh, and if you’re keeping track(cause it’s kinda interesting to watch the thousands disappear), the $1.7million for the $500 rebate is down to a few hundred thousand.  And the $15million for $100 rebates is down to about $13million I believe as of this morning.

Crazy stuff.

Wow. Appliances are so costly! I won’t be buying any for a while, thank god. Maybe I should start a saving account specifically for that LOL

ryn: I think everyone does it to some degree. For the most part, I don’t say anything behind someone’s back that I wouldn’t say to their face. And as far as meetings go, I think that’s what I was talking about. People making comments about what is being presented, not necessarily making fun the presenter himself. I was just rambling, and I didn’t really stay on topic! I didn’t express myself very well. But then there are also those people that will make fun of the person, just to be mean. If I poke fun at someone, it’s never with malicious intent. I will just as readily laugh at myself as I will other people.
