Between the Earth and Sky

I’m watching the rain fall

and listening to it sing.

It’s smiling at me; it remembers

Of when it took everything.

Still I stand here in the wind,

Its voice is empty and coarse.

I offer it a blanket,

It gives me a cold cup of remorse.

I turn heavenward, looking for a sign.

I see a wound in the darkness and drink deep.

It’s just like mine.

Standing here alone, upon a balcony of timelessness

The only sound is a silent plea.

for between the Earth and sky,

it’s just you, and me.
