When did dancing change so much?
What have I missed? At what point in time did dancing change so much? I know from the 60’s to the 90’s dancing changed. We started standing closer, getting more personal. I am sure the people from the 60’s hated watching those people dance in the 90’s, but what would they think if they saw the dancing now? Grinding? Really? What kind of dancing is that? More or less sex standing. It isn’t pretty, or fun, or entertaining, there is nothing spectacular about it. It seems to be like a party that should happen in the privacy of one’s home; if it should even happen then. I chaperoned Whitney’s Junior prom last night, and I don’t really know how I feel. I know I am disgusted at the lack of facial contact, personal touch to dancing, fun all together.
I saved some pictures from the internet dancing styles from the 60’s up.
60’s in sink, swirling, fast dance, keeping up with each others rhythm.
70’s
Late 80’s early 90’s colorful, fast fun dancing.
80’s Harvard dance; face to face, holding hands, conversations.
80’s Break dancing. Moving to your own beat, different styles, upside down, spins on heads, stomach scooting)
90’s face to face dancing, swirling in the back, conversation.
90’s – groups of people line dancing (no touching, pure fun).
THE DANCE LAST NIGHT. I made this photo larger, because it was dark and it is blurry. Look toward the bottom right. There is a guy with a solid white suit on and a girl with a blue dress (white flower in her hair). She would bend down like she was vomiting, wiggle her butt, while he grinded into her. It was disgusting. Look around the room, you will notice that not a single person dancing is facing each other. The same group the girl is in that I pointed out. She is with about five girls and guys. The girls would lean in and kiss, talk, etc, while the guys continued their grinding, none of them talking to each other or looking at each other just grinding like they were sticking their front side into the girls back sides. Through the night I think I saw three, maybe four, couple face to face. What will it be like in ten years, will they be lying down with their clothes off jumping each other, calling that dancing?
On a better note, here are some photos of my daughter
