Ohio, Ohio, Ohio
We got moved to Ohio. We (myself, Whitney and Alexandra) arrived on the 5th I believe. Everything is so different here. There are pros and cons, but for now it is all just like walking into a candy store and seeing a bunch of new candy and wanting to try out everything new. The biggest thing for us is that we are close to everything. They have walking numbers here online. Like what is the chance you walk all the time between 0% and 100% the walking percentage is 61% here. Where you don’t walk there is like a two to 15 minute drive. Where I came from there was at least a 30 minute drive everywhere you went unless you wanted to go to Dairy Queen, a little bitty small town grocery store, Sonic, or a gas station. I have never, as long as I can remember, since I started driving walked anywhere. Before I started driving I would ride my bike everywhere. I would ride miles and miles a day. I never wanted to be inside. I rode with my friends, I rode alone. I would say I rode at least 15 miles a day. Now, I can’t ride to the end of the street. This is not an exaggeration. My legs shake and I can’t walk afterwards. I haven’t seen anyone on bikes here. There are not even bike racks at the schools here, which is weird since so many people walk.
We live on a very busy street. The ambulances and police cars are going up and down it constantly. I know the police station is right next door, but not sure where the fire station is, but it has to be close, because every time the sirens go on we hear them and see them rushing down our street. At night; however, our town is like a ghost town.
Now, this is very odd to say the least, because I was reading about our town and up until recently our town and county was a ghost town. However, one guy had done demographics and wanted to change things and decided to build a mall. He knew that a mall would bring people, and jobs. People told him he was a fool, but he built the mall anyway. This mall is where the Cabela’s I am going to work at is located. In any case, the mall brought so many people that we are one of the fastest growing counties in Ohio. I don’t know the complete story and might be giving some wrong information, but it sounds good. LOL. We don’t have internet. The guy next door is letting us tap into his internet so that I could complete some important stuff online (Corban’s registration). In any case, I was researching things like child predators, etc. I wanted to know the statistics.
We went back to Texas on the 9th to pick up Corban, our dog Spike and another load of stuff to fit in our equinox. That trip seemed so much longer. It took us 20 hours. As soon as we arrived back on the 12th, Corban came down with something horrible, possibly the flu, and didn’t get well until today. He still has a horrible cough, but he can eat and sit up now. I wanted to register him on Monday, but because he was sick that did not happen.
Whitney starts school at 7:30am. This is unusual since she is used to starting at 8:30. Corban starts at 8:00am, and Alexandra at 8:15. I don’t think I go into work each day until 9am so it shouldn’t be a problem for me to get the too school, but each of them will have to walk home. Alexandra’s school takes five minutes to get too, but Whitney’s school takes 20 minutes at least. It scares me as a parent, just because I have never lived here, and my children have never walked long distances where I could not see them or know the people that lived near.
I want to talk about the house, but I will save that for later. Corban is watching a movie, Alexandra has decided she just now wants to study for a test and it is 10:40. I can’t think to write an entry with noise everywhere.
I do want to say that since we moved here we have been cooking all our meals. We have very little money and shop for the food we are going to cook daily. We have had simple things like tuna fish sandwiches, sausage helper, deviled eggs, spegghetti, etc. We don’t have TV, haven’t had internet, or any mechanical things so we have been playing games, reading books, talking about school, walking, and shopping a ton at the good will to get furniture for our house. So far we have a chair and a dresser. I will post pictures soon. I had to purchase tons of curtains. Our house is made of windows.
Anyway, more on all that later. I will try to write again soon.
Everyone is getting the flu these days. I had it about a week before Christmas and it was horrible!
