The Eyes have it

I have always been a bit cavalier about my eyes…true, they are the only pair of peepers that we have

Come to think of it, in the past, I have taken a lot of things for granted…and not just body stuff…I may want to ponder that at length

Anyway

I am nearsighted and have been since junior high. Many unfortunate class photos of me wearing these ridiculous glasses that I thought were attractive (it was the late 70’s and early 80’s after all)

And of course, for those in the military, you will remember the BC glasses, aka Birth Control, aptly named because women wouldn’t want anything to do with you if you wore those ugly black rimmed glasses. Its so funny, now girls think hotty nerds are cute and those sort of glasses ala Rivers Cuomo from Weezer and other lead singers of bands that wear those sort of things are what make them attractive

When I had the chance, I got contacts…and back then they were crazy expensive. I tried to get them in the Marines, however, I never seemed to have enough money for stuff like that

Can’t tell you how glad I am for VSP type insurances!

So of course, I don’t really think much of it when my 2 week daily wear contacts get a little grody and start to bother my eyes. When it gets too bad, I just change them out. Only thing is, I was out of contacts and I needed to either order them online or get to an eye doctor

I mean, I need to get to the dentist too, and I know I have a LOT of work that needs to be done…even with insurance, my out of pocket is ridiculous, so I put stuff like that off

Push came to shove however when I felt like someone was poking me in my eye

And there I am, with only the two contacts in my eyes on hand

So yeah, I looked up the closest eye doctor to where I work (and I know that may not be the wisest of choices since I am trying REALLY hard to leave this place) I couldn’t wait any longer. And its been years since I got them checked, so there you go

I went into this optometrist in a little strip mall near work and I asked if they had a trial pair of my contacts, which they didn’t. So I made an appointment and went home to take them out and put my glasses on…rubbing the eye the whole way home, I just knew there was something in it

Come to find out, that as I was trying to figure out what was in my eye, my contact had a big slice in the middle of it!

Don’t go half way now, do I?

Instead of getting something out of my eye, I was scratching my cornea…good times!

So yesterday was my appointment and I have to say, very good choice. Doctor was very informative, gave me some different scenarios about lasix surgery, and we even talked about my little man Snow’s eye (which was a great conversation, which even though he didn’t see his eye, assured me that he’ll only lose vision, not the actual eye)

He gave me some trial contacts to wear, different power and I put them on after he washed the corneal dye out of it. I have to tell you, that’s like the coolest feeling, having your eyeballs washed out. The rest of the day yesterday I felt like someone had taken out my eyes, washed them thoroughly in cool water and popped them back in…he said people love that in the spring when they have allergies lol

So yeah, here I am, all able to see again and I am reminded yet again that I am lucky to have a job where I can go get my eyes checked, get some new contacts and my only out of pocket is $10

Woot for new contacts!! I’m glad you found a very helpful doctor. That is wonderful! I’m such a chicken with new doctors. When I moved here, it took me about a year to finally make the appointment and go to any of my doctors. HUGS

That does sound like it would be “refreshing”. And how cool for only $10.00!!!! Gotta love that!

YAY for vision insurance.

I need to ask my eye doctor about that eye washing procedure, I think I’d love it. I’ve done some looking into Lasik, but at this point I’m still too much of a chicken to actually go through with it.
