An RCA moment

So the verdict on the car is that it needs a new water pump as well as the front struts are gone

I so love my mechanic…he’s always willing to work with me and I am able to make payments because I really don’t have a spare $1,000 to throw at my 15 yo car

And one of his workers, Jake, just listens to the car without even opening the hood and says, Water Pump, in his sexy german accented voice (I so want him, I can’t tell you how many naughty thoughts I have about him, again, I digress)

So Mark sends me to Enterprise to get a rental (I get sweet rental car rates through my mechanic, gotta love that) and they give me a ginormous minivan! Mar said if I was worried about looking like a soccer mom before…as she walked away laughing last night

Its fully loaded and I could definitely see the draw…just not me…and like my work daughter says, doesn’t matter how many kids I have, I will shove them in a Land Rover first over a minivan

I get home and Mar and I discuss car stuff and I said, heck, let’s take the seats down and load the dogs into the back, take them for a ride, which we did, and they were so scared of the opening and closing of the automatic doors (makes a note about such things for future vehicle purchases). We get back home and let the dogs out and we head over to the new cupcake place at the mall, Sprinkles, which just opened

Mar had fun playing with the satellite radio and we were laughing all the way to the mall about the choices she made. So much to choose from, you really need someone sitting there navigating the touchscreen or I can definitely see driving off the road while focusing elsewhere

We get to the mall and of course there is a line, this place has just opened and so much hoopla was made about it that people were just going nuts about cupcakes

I am spoiled, I get to have them every day if I wanted since Mar bakes them for the restaurant, however she wanted to get some to do a comparison so there we stood waiting like everyone else

It was nice to see her talk with other people, as I mentioned that she was a pastry chef and she was doing a taste comparison. Normally she is shy and lets me do the talking. This time, I just let her do her thing, and I couldn’t have been more proud

We laughed with some high school girls and finally got into the cupcake store after waiting in line for an hour, it passed pretty quickly and we had fun talking with others.

I will say that I am not impressed with them, I don’t think she is either…then again, these people really need to get out more if they think these are great baked goods

We get in the van, and head home…I decided to check out Sur La Table on the way and we got a wrap for dinner. We stood and watched ESPN as we were surprised to see the Cubs had caught up from a 5-1 deficit. Someone sitting at the wrap place was watching just as intently as us and after the Cubs pitcher struck out the side of Mets, we left to see if we could catch it home

We drive home, with Mar yelling at the satellite radio (What’s the point of having sports radio if they don’t have the GAME ON?!? Its on ESPN for flip sake!)

As we get closer to home, the Sports Center chatter ends and we hear the play by play of the game. We drive around the block so that I can park the giant behemoth van and as we did, we would lean in, as the announcers would call the plays, and it reminded me of my childhood, sitting on the floor at my mother’s feet, playing while she sewed or cooked. I remember seeing her lean in, as if getting closer she could visualize what Jack Brickhouse was saying and see instead of hear the action on the field.

We pulled up in front of the house and I turned off the van, as we sat and listened intently to the play-by-play. It was a really nice moment, one of the many that I love about Mar and I, how close we are and how we really enjoy our times together

We yelled and screamed and got all carried away as one of the Cubs got a home run to make the score 9-6, in the 10th inning

When the inning was over, we went into the house and went about our evenings activities

Regardless of the cat being ill, the various cars we have needing repair, of not having a lot of money so that I can pay for vet and mechanic bills, its moments like that, that remind me of how blessed I am, and as someone dear to me said yesterday, it really does seem like I have an angel on my shoulder

That game killed me, just killed me. I wish I had a cupcake right now to ease the pain. . . .
