So much for that….
I took off 1/2 a day yesterday to go to Tulsa. I had a LASIK pre-screening scheduled for 2:00 in the afternoon, but we can only take vacation in 4 or 8 hour increments. Didn’t hurt my feelings to take the entire afternoon off. 🙂
We got to the eye place 15 minutes early, it was easy to get to and our GPS gave us good directions. I had downloaded and printed the forms I needed so they were already filled out. But, one of them was not the one they needed, so I still ended up having to fill out a couple more. No biggie, didn’t take long. After I turned those back in, I went and sat back down to wait. Mike went back to the car to get some change for a pop. He had originally planned on going back with me, but there was a sign saying that if you were coughing or anything, you might be asked to wear a mask. He has a cold and has been coughing his head off for three days. He decided to just wait out in the lobby for me.
When I got called back, they moved me to three different stations before I finally ended up in the actual exam room. They did several tests on my eyes including measuring my corneal thickness. I asked the tech who did that if it was good or bad. She told me she didn’t know how to read the results, just how to perform the test. Well, alrighty then. So I didn’t ask her anymore questions. She got my current prescription and determined which was my dominant eye and then did one other test, but I forgot what it was. I finally got into the exam room and she told me the doctor would be there in just a few minutes.
The doc came in with an ‘observer’…I’m assuming he was an intern or something. He sat down and didn’t say very much during the entire time I was in there. Which, unfortunately, wasn’t very long. The doctor told me that my prescription was too high and that I was not a good LASIK candidate. I was more upset than I thought I would be about that. She then went into a couple of different options that are available to me. One was dismissed immediately, and the other I thought about for a little while.
It is cataract surgery, they replace my lens with a synthetic lens. No, I don’t have cataracts, so it would be an elective surgery and I’d have to pay the entire cost. I would have had to with LASIK as well, but that was 1/2 the price of this other surgery. Plus this one has more risks associated with it….and I’m just not ready to go through with something that drastic. So, I’ll keep my glasses and be happy.
I have a meeting at 10, lunch with a couple of coworkers at 11 or so and then this afternoon, back in the office. Hopefully for a nice quiet one.
Oh, I ran into another friendly spook last night. We had just gotten home from Tulsa and pulled into the driveway. I got out of the car and looked up and there was a man standing not more than three feet from me. He was walking right towards me and disappeared just as he got to me. Scared the crap out of me, that’s the closest one has ever come to me that I coudl see. Mike said he might have been coming to see the project car in the driveway.
Ok, gotta’ run. Take care of yourselves and have a great day!
sounds like a residue haunting

Wow that’s interesting about the spook! I have really horrible vision as well, plus hugely high astigmatism, so I’m thinking I probably wouldn’t be a candidate, either, which I wouldn’t anyway because of the cost. But think of it this way: You just got a handful of cash! What will you do with it, I wonder?

Sorry you don’t qualify for LASIK. Bummer.

That’s a bummer about the LASIK but I’m with you. I wouldn’t do the other surgery. Sounds risky.

Sorry the LASIK idea didn’t work out for you. I don’t think I’d want the elective surgery, either.

When I saw the word “Spook” my first thought was, “I didn’t think Kat was a spy…” Just finished reading a Baldacci book. Lots of spooks in it. Sorry you did not get the result you wanted at your appt.
