Birthday recap, exercise talk, etc.

I had a pretty good birthday yesterday.  I wound up not having to babysit at all, which was awesome.  I can’t wait until I officially quit this babysitting gig.  Owen’s school was closed due to snow, so I got to spend all day with just my 2 boys 🙂  I wound up taking a 3 hour nap snuggling with my babies.  Jamie had to work, but they were on the inclement weather schedule and he didn’t have to go in until 10 am.  When he came home from work, he showed up with a cookie cake (from Great American Cookie Co) and a card that contained a $25 itunes gift card.   ðŸ™‚  I wasn’t expecting much because he organized a party/dinner on Sunday to celebrate, so that was nice that he was extra thoughtful.  We ordered dinner from a local pizza restaurant which turned out not so great.  The food was pretty late getting here, was cold, and 2/3 of the order was wrong.  I ordered a pizza with pepperoni and sausage, cheesy breadstix with bacon, and a calzone with an extra side of garlic sauce.  We wound up with a plain cheese pizza, a plain order of breadstix and the extra sauces didn’t come either.  I was a bit irritated.  I called to complain (something I usually don’t do) and they offered to refund $5 back to my account.  That doesn’t really fix it in my opinion but whatever.  We won’t be ordering from there again.  I can understand messing one item up, but every single thing?!

My elliptical was delivered on Tuesday.  Jamie put it together that night.  I really like it so far.  It doesn’t hurt my knees like I was worried about.  It does let me know just how out of shape I am though.  Jeez.  My thighs start to burn quite easily.  Hopefully I can build up some  endurance pretty quickly.  I love having exercise equipment at home because I don’t have an excuse to not work out.  We still plan to go hiking around the lake when the weather warms up too.   I need to work out a schedule for how often I want to work out on the elliptical and how often I want to do strength training.  I was thinking 5 days per week for cardio, and 3 days per week strength training?  I still need to go buy weights though, so that is on hold for now.  I also need to buy a workout mat.

I ate 1600 calories yesterday, which is a little over 300 above my 1280 goal yesterday (which isn’t bad at all considering it was my birthday!), and the scale said I had gained 2 lbs this morning!  How the hell does that happen.  I know I haven’t gained 2 lbs eating 1600 calories, but jeez is it frustrating to see the scale go up instead of down.  I’m hoping it is fluid retention or something.  I did drink a lot yesterday.
