Sick of guns and gun talk…
Noters Beware!! This is a “mean-note” free diary.
And yet another topic I am sick to death of…GUNS!! My personal opinion…I don’t think that the government should take everyone’s weapons (and nor do I think they are trying to.)I do think that there needs to be some measure of keeping better track of who owns each gun…and more personal responsibility for those guns. Yes, there are other things that kill people too…cars, drugs, and whatever else. But you don’t usually hear of any crazy people deciding to go postal and plow into the local elementary school with their Toyota’s either. Plus to have a car, you are supposed to have it registered and insured. Why not the same for guns? Why not have them registered to a specific owner? It isn’t right that someone with no criminal record can walk into a shop, buy a gun, and then turn around and sell it on the street to someone who couldn’t pass a background check. I don’t even see how you could live with yourself if you sold a gun to someone who then turned around and killed even just one person with that gun. I don’t have problems with people who use them for hunting or target practice. But there are so many people out there right now who have delusions of Rambo. I see posts of guns all the time on Facebook, I have a relative who constantly posts photos of his guns and “scores” of ammo that he got at Cabela’s. I had 2 customers in my store who had a very long conversation about their guns and how the one guy didn’t understand why his wife was reluctant to go shoot somewhere. They were discussing his AR-15. Apparently, the one guys wife didn’t want to shoot it…he felt she was being a chicken, so to speak. He kept going on and on about how “once she got it in her hands, she would see how fun it was.” Arrgh. If she doesn’t want to shoot it, so what? Why is it when a guy enjoys shooting guns, his wife has to enjoy it too. Maybe that’s just not her
“thang”. Who cares? I, personally, am not afraid to shoot a gun…I love muzzle loaders. But I can see validity to both sides of the argument, and I feel that if stronger background checks are a step in the right direction to make it even a smidgen harder for the “crazies” to obtain a gun, then so be it. Why does it have to jump immediately to “OH! THEY’RE GONNA TAKE ALL OUR GUNS!!!” Holy nutbuckets, Batdude!!
Anyway…I found this article which pretty much sums up my feelings on the whole gun issue:
